Seems to be some people have issues with the actual color of a Presidental canidate. His Dad is Kenyen and his Mom is Caucasian. He refers to himself as African American. My question is.... how do you pick what race you want to be associated with??? To me,he is 50/50. Im half German and half Irish....yet I am refered to as a caucasian. I think people are making a big deal out of him because he is half black....but he is also half white....

Because they're both caucasian. Being German or Irish is a matter of nationality, not race.

Well, first off German and Irish are Nationalities not races.
I think most people have a problem with him because he has less political experience than any candidate i can ever think of other than Ross Perot.
I'd say the opposite of you. If he wasn't half black, he wouldn't even be a candidate. IMO, that is the only reason he is even around.

I suppose you pick the race/culture you feel you most closely associate with.

I think I remember him specifically saying that he's bi-racial and he doesn't consider himself more of one race than another, so are you SURE he said he considers himself "African American"? at the same time though, I DO realize he's a politician and that they are capable of speaking out both sides of their face.
different people have different motivations and reasoning for why they vote I guess. I'm not voting for any of the Democrat candidates because I don't see any of them that are worth my vote. but if a gun were put to my head and I were forced to vote for a Dem, I would vote for Obama over any of the others because he seems to be the most moderate (not that that's a compliment because saying he's moderate compared to Hillary and John Edwards is like saying 100 degrees is frosty compared to 110).

Why should race even matter? It is a the biggest non issue on the planet. It doesn't matter what color their skin is, what gender. It doesn't play into how good, or bad of a job he will do.

the bemocrats have no good canidates! Hillary is a joke, kerry does't have a chance and Obama has no experience. none of them are worth the time. granted the republicans havent showed much strength either. McCain??? I dont know who I'd vote for, there all crooked! Then again I voted for Jessie in college.

I don't see a good canidate on either sides either. I kinda would have to pick McCain, but I don't think he is goining to be in the finals.

I dont care what race, color, or ---. Being from Ill., I have a good idea on the guy, and he is a pupet. He is told what to do, and he does it. Out of all the people running for this election, I think I am going with Mickey Mouse. He is the best out of this group

Obo is considered black based on his appearance, just like Tiger Woods (half asian) It's not like they get to dictate how other people percieve them.
I wouldn't vote for him either.

True, But the republicans have proven they can win with bad candidates (last election) because the democrats don't offer up someone in a JFK class of candidate...
I don't understand why Obama's "limited" congressional record is an issue. Hilary hasn't been in office much longer. And don't give me the crap that she was first lady....She got to decorate the white house make a few speeches and entertain international officials. That does not qualify her as presidential candidate.....that qualifies her as a party planner.
Regardless which candidate gets the bid, they won't win....senators have bad track records with presidential elections. very few senators ever win historically. You can count on a governor winning every time.

Sounds kinda like how the Nazi party gained control of Germany. They just focused on the bad things about the other party and never mentioned their plans in office. Not saying that Republicans are Nazis, far from actualy, but it seems like they are using the same politcal tactic.

Concerning the question about how someone can PICK what race or nationality they wish to associate with, often that decision is made for you based upon appearance, family, or even a name.

Actually that is how most political powers gain their power...If the other side didn't have anything "bad" about them, what kind of platfoirm woiuld you run on? "I promise to do everything the other guy is already doing."?
Unfortunately...Our political system has become very stable...After a while there are only so many laws and regulations that can be written...after you do that it boils down to the nit picking during elections that we have today.
Issues such as abortion, immigration, security, and taxes could be solved very simply but if we solved those issues, then the politicians would have bnothing to debate and fight over. We already solved our past issues and this is what we have left.

Heck let's sovle this crap then! If there was no debating or fighting between America, I'd be cool with that. But I don't want a dictatorship or anything though. No easy way out.
But I would appreciate hearing about what the republican canditates would do. We get enough coverage of what the democrats are proposing to do.
