Iv been using it for 8 months with no problems..

Any comments?

PH is rarely a problem with the salt unless it's a bad batch. If your Ca, ALK, and Magnesium are within normal ranges then something else is contributing to your low PH.
Oceanic is notorious for having very high Mg. but that shouldn't supress PH.

my R/O water has a PH of only 7... when i mix in the salt it usually only gets up to 7.8
and unless my test kits are wrong my alk is high and my calcium is high
i have a hard time keeping emerald crabs alive for more then a week, same goes with mexican turbo snails... i assume this is because of my PH problem yes?

I used to use oceanic but not any more. Not because I had problems just tried something else and liked it better. My levels where always fine with oceanic. What time of the day do you normaly test. PH will always be lower in the morning. Lights and tempeture effects it also.

Sorry to jump in like this, but what kind of salt did you switch to? I'm using Instant Ocean since starting my tank, but now I have heard that this may be the reason that my calcium is low (320). I haven't made the switch yet, but I would be interested in finding out what brands are out there.
Thank you!!

I have been using Oceanic salt and my Calcium levels are very high (675). I don't dose with anything. So far the tank seems fine. Lots of purple coraline, fish are fine as is my emerald crab. I have zoos, yellow polyps, and sun coral. (tank is 3 mos old) h*

I have been using oceanic for a while. Every bucket of salt so far has elevated alkalinity, elevated magnesium and low (in proportion to the alkalinity) calcium.
The elevated levels of alkalinity will help maintain a higher PH so I would look elsewhere for the problem.

How are you mixing the salt?? Are you aerating it for at least 24 hours??
FWIW, Here's how I mix mine...
Fill the bucket with RO/DI water... add a heater & powerhead
Add salt SLOWLY not allowing any to touch the bottom
Bring salinity to around 30ppt then wait until temp rise to 80deg
Bring salinity up to 35ppt and let mix/aerate for 24 hours
