Oh My Gosh!!!!!

Today I was doing a reguler maitnes check. Then I got to my sump. And soon enogh there in my sump was a COPPER HEAD SNAKE

It was in my sump tray so I qoukly put the tray in a bucket, put a lid on it and put it in my woods.
Luckly it did no harm to my tank (like poisin).
My quastion is, how did it get onto my hous. Why MY sump?

in the sump cause it moist and temperature controled. as far as how anywhere really you could have a rodent hole somwhere ot a gap somwhere just big enough for it to squueze through you may never find out where though.
it wouldnt have poisoned the tank but if there were fish in the sump it would have probably went after them for foods.
with that being said if you have a crawl space under the house throw a bunch of moth balls under your home it will help in stopping them. you also have to look at right now the snakes are looking for dens to winter over in.
glad you didnt get bite though they arent deadly toxic but would have put a hurt on ya for sure.

Yeah... not good, I used to live in AL and we would get them in the house from time to time, but they like water, they usally live near lakes and under rocks, so your sump is like a lake indoors...

its a coppery colored poisonous snake usually found in swampy damp areas and around rivers and streams. and in the forrest litter.
are you sure it was a copperhead and not a water mocason?

Oh lol! I thought it was some sort of fish or eel or some thing like that LOL. Didnt think it was a real snake.

Glad you set it free and didnt try to kill it....glad it didnt try to kill you either...
definately a suprise though...Ill go carefully check my sump now

That is the craziest thing I ever heard!!!
So tell us-- how loud was your scream?
I think I would have called those reptile guys that do house calls. I hope you weren't alone when you did this. That would have been really scary.
You just need to look for any small openings. Since you let it out in your woods, I would think it would come back. I know Gators can find their way back.

Hmmmm...... If it ever comes back why wont you set up a tank for it and all that stuff? I think that would be really cool if you set up a tank for it.

That has to be one of the last things that you would expect to find in your sump, I would have gotten freaked out, and then do a double take to make sure i wasnt seeing things.
I am also glad that you didnt get bit!!! My family lives in louisiana and those snakes are my grandmothers worst enemies!
