Ok guys I am gonna need some help with this one

I have a 55 gallon that has a 200W heater on it. Well, I posted earlier that I was having problems with heat. My tank shot up 4 degrees today and as yet to go down. It is as 81 right now. Well, I do not think I have heater trouble, I think it is my room. When its hot outside it is blazing in here(today it was 74 and is still 60 at 11:30pm and I live in TN), when it is cold outside it is freezing in here.
I think this summer and spring this will pose a problem. I think my tank will jump to hot marks and I do not wanna see fried fish. Is there a way to combat this problem. Possibly an inexpensive way to fix it.

To combat the prob? sure to do it cheap NO the best way to take care of it would to be add a chiller but there around $650 for a quarter horse but you may be able to find a used on much cheaper. good luck ---Bill

inexpensive, probably not, you willprobably need a chiller, or room ac, best options i can think of

There about $250 but the electrical use will kill you if i figure right about the room, i would spend the extra on the chiller ---- Bill

a nano reef is a small reef tank, like 20 gallons or less(i am not sure exactly what they consider the cut off in size), but it is rated for 10 gallons, look for one atleast as big as your tank

Man, this stinks, I wish there was a way to cool the tank without the cost. Expensive hobby!!!

i got central ac, so no, but i would look for a good enough size ac that way you can both benefit

I run central ac in my house, but this room that I have the aquarium in, is really odd, its like I said it is hot and cold during different seasons. Wonder if I could just ask the central Ac people to check this room out?
I have my vents covered up with furniture, but when I didn't it did not help

i am having the same exact problem as you do. my temp spikes are from 5 -7 7 degrees depending on the temp of my room. like you said, when its hot its hot and when its cold its cold and it really affects the tank temp tremendously. i have posted this problem a while back with no real way to inexpensively do the job. someone did post that he/she had added ice cubes when the temp hit high degrees. they said that they took some water from the tank and froze it in some ice trays. when the tank reached high levels they threw in 5-6 aquarium ice cubes. i havent tried it because it is cold here in NY and my prob is keeping the tank temp up. hey its worth a shot, hope this helps, good luck.
