I havent been on for a while, i know....
I had to leave my tank for 3 days when my parents went to SannaBell Island for their anniversary, becasue of the lst minute outlet problem, i either had to leave my lights on, or off. I left them on (yes, i know, that is the first mistake..
)... Well, i come back from vacation, my entire tank is covered in hair algae, buble algae, and this black looking like stringie algaue... my LMB was dead... I scraped the algae off, and checked my parameters, everythign was fine... then the next day, my 3-stripe damsel died, then my Coral beauty..... IDK what from or anything..... All i have now is a CBS, a (oh i forgot what it is calles, little crap that looks like it has drippign rock formations on its back...) crab, and a yellow-tailed blue damsel..
Now my friend dan andi have been talking alot about this, and we decided that since like everything died, i should start over, and have an EEL tank.... i will have a 29 gal. BUT Dan may sell me his 55 hex.. that wold be sooo cool Dan...lol...... But IDK what eels to get, can i get fish with them, what kindo of maintainence is needed, food? What do YOU thinki should do? :help:

Seth, to be honest, I think you should wait a while before you try to support any more living creatures. I'm sorry for your fish. I can't give you sympathy, having viewed your threads.
I think you may have your hands full with life right now. That is as it should be. Enjoy it. Take up the hobby later.

eels are okay with fish that get bigger than the eels mouth... you couldnt keep an eel in your 29 for long at all... IMO 55 gal is a minimum for most eels with some needing a much larger tank size... eels are carnivores, nocturnal and they do like to jump out of their tanks...

eels are cool, i saw a tank with eels and triggers, puffers, etc. so it can definately be done. good luck.

There's got to be other issues that caused the death of your fish. A timer would be wise to get, they're rather inexpensive!!! I would suggest getting the $10 timer at Wal-mart, not the cheap kind that used on lamps that cost like $5, those are worthless and doesn't work half the time, I used the cheap ones on pc fans, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. :happyfish

Something else is definitely going on... I can't imagine there being enough light/food to have algae blooms of three different types of algae in 3 days....
Sorry for your loss.

I agree.
And what are your exact
water parameters?

i dont know much, being so new and all. but i would try to figure out what happened to your tank that KILLED everything before i started another one. plus you might want to rethink doing this if you didnt go get a timer for your lights before you left for 3 days.

Nitrate- 0
Nitrite -0
Hardness- 250 ( i know my water is very hard, but it has been like that for years)
Alklinity- 150
PH- 7.5
Ammonia- .25
and i know you are all here to help (and if your not, then you shouldnt be here, cough, cough) But do have to add that i have had aquariums for about two and a half years now, and i have never had a problem like this, i was proud of myself, i am usaually the messy kind of person who forget all osrt of things and doesnt take care of things well, but i did. I took soooo goo dcare of ALL my pets. They only SWF that have died on me were all at once (within like two days) from something that is unkown to me. I am not irr-responsible and i really dont appreciate it when people suggest that to me. My fish are enver not fed, adn never not given their water changes, and never not checked up on many, many times a day. What happnedd was not something due to stupid behavior or lack of care, but something that i would rather not be grtilled about, but helped with. i created this post to find out what happened so that whe i do start another tank, i will know what to do if it happens again. Im my room, i have 2 rats, a hamster, and a 29 gal. aquarium ... ALl of my pets are treated as my children and given proper care and love, i know that anybody else on here wouldnt like for people to tell them they should quit the hobby if something happened beyond their power, and i wouldnt either. This is what i love and what i want to do (remember, im 16, have no job, and litte money, and i am happier than ever with one of the most expensive hobbies, there is goign to be care, trust me) and all i want is for people to help me, for me to make friends with the same passion for fish as i do, and to learn how to better myself as an aquarist.
Thank You,
Seth

It looks to me like maybe the combination of alkalinity, PH, and ammonia is what killed everything. PH and ALK really low and Am. to high imo

So you have no fish now? Maybe find a new home for your shrimp and take all you rock out and scrub the algea off, clean the tank, do some good water changes and start over in a couple weeks.
I don't think an eel's really a good idea for either of those tanks though, maybe a convict blenny? An eel would require more room, lots of rock, fresh seafood, and a good cover. Sorry about your tank, I have nightmares about my tank crashing or breaking.

Sux about ur fish. You might however think about a larger tank if you want an eel. I"m no expert, but I just put a 6 inch Snowflake eel in my 150g tank. He's all good right now, but I watch him as he swims around and think he is 6 inchs now, supposedly gets up to 3 feet, and he is supposed to be a small eel. I am starting to think if he gets that big, even my tank will be too small. IMO, a 29g is way too small, and I don't thnk a 55g hex would be much better. Check out some of the threads in the aggressive section and hit them up about tank size for eels, or if there are any smaller ones for your tank.

Seth, sorry for the losses. Lets step back a bit and think. You bought the tank used didn't you? Could copper have been used?
