I was given some old live rock about 10-12lbs I was wondering if it would be ok to just pit in the tank since it's not that much or should I cure it first
If it has dried out or if it has been neglected I recommend cooking it. Please search for a cooking method ... it's not a stovetop type cooking, more of an extended curing process.
