If in fact it is a new store owner and he/she does not know how to price his/her product than he/she (trying to be PC) has no business being in business. I wouldn't dream of having a LFS. While I like to think I know a fair amount about this hobby one thing I'm certain of is that I have nowhere near enough expertise to own and operate a store for it. I'm fairly sure Mr. Darwin will take care of the store soon enough.

DME, don't get me wrong, I'm not hacking on you. I understand your position. That doesn't mean I agree with it. So please take no offense. Everyone will have their own opinion on the subject, and whose to say who is right and who is wrong. That's why they're opinions!
I think I need to go make some popcorn now, this thread looks to be getting interesting!

Wow, I just hopped on this thread to see a good deal... not a 2 page long stupid {edit} argument. Some of you one here are rediculious.. there are people in freakin' Iraq and god knows where else scared for their lives etc and ya'll are freaking out about a 13 year old that got a good deal.. He didnt put the frags in his pocket and run out, he asked "How much" then heard "$2.99" and said ok, I'll take them. I see NOTHING wrong w/ that at all.. I'd do the same, its not stealing, hes paying for them therefore dont judge his ethics.

Sorry to disappoint you, I'm about 3 x older than Connor is. I'd be happy to draw conclusions about you as well based upon your posts but they're probably not appropriate being posted here

You be surprise today how smart the young ones are these days like all my grand kids are very smart and my oldest (12) knows of things that I never learn while growing and a surprise as it may sound, grand son Nick at the age of 2.5 yrs, he could spell "Shakespeare" and i know lots of grown ups who can`t .

So it's ok to "whip" a child, but it's not ok to get a good deal on corals? Connor asked for the price, they gave it to him, and he paid what they told him...enough said. Come on DME, looks like you are the one coming down on the wrong side of the Moral Ladder!
You know if you "whip" an adult you go to jail for assualt! So why is it ok to do it to your grandchildren?
It is a grandparent's job to love and spoil their grandchildern, not assualt them. Nor is it a grandparent's job to threaten other people's children. Looks like someone could use a little Anger Management Therapy!

Great deal connor! I'm glad you were in the right place at the right time.

AND, the people on this thread that know SO much about saltwater aquariums and things are sitting here waisting their time fighting about something so stupid, I have made posts asking for help when I needed a quick response and got NOTHING for days.. but as soon as something comes on thats dumb like this it gets 5 pages of responses. I think its pretty messed up.

I don't think he is a thief or a liar. But you don't have to break the law to be unethical.
I'm sorry folks but I don't recall a time where I was in a situation and there was clear uncertainty on the part of the workers over something I KNEW should be a certain price, getting a real lowball price, and taking advantage of that. Maybe it is the quality of the places I buy from
But I am a fair person and understand that businesses have to make money. I respect that.
Yes, the LFS guy should have marked the tank. But I can make no judgements against him for having inexperienced employees. I don't know that situation at all.
And to say he has plenty of money, he has such and such a car...so it is OK, well that REALLY disturbs me.
One wrong does not make a right in terms of it the LFS overcharges the customer, the customer can nail them back. First, this is a perception and not always the reality...you don't know their supplier, their rent, their insurance, etc. It may not even apply to this store. I ASSUME that you would not continue to shop at a store that would be taking advantage of people left and right. THAT is how you tell a shop that you don't respect them.
I think if he bought a colony or two, OK maybe that's one thing. I can definitely see the argument easily. But buying them all KNOWING that there is some problem, brag about getting more or selling them back LOL....something is not right there, IMO.
So sorry, NO, I have not taken advantage of this sort of situation exactly because I would feel real guilty about it. There is no hypocrisy. There is just something not right. There is something distasteful about this whole thing...I don't know if it is the bragging, the lack of any appearance of moderation (buy them all!!), the "its OK cause he's got a fancy car," or what...but there is something not right. And I am distrubed so many people ARE telling a 13 year old this is fine. At least show moderation, please....
And about not answering other questions: Please understand that questions that get few answers often do not get them because they are a common question. Try searching first and then modifying your question. Or it could mean there is not enough info or the tone lacks something.
But people look for different questions to answer...and this is one. If we complain about the LFS being unethical towards charging customers, should we take advantage of them when we can?? Is there a line between getting a good deal, and taking advantage of people? 1 or 2 colonies may be a good deal, IMO, buying as many as you can (and more than you can probably keep) knowing there was probably some mistake is taking advantage.

For one thing that is wrong with that is, I not think I can put and adult over my knee and whenever I spank the kids, it is only once, not spank after spank and also not very hard for it also hurts me to have to spank them. But if your an adult and you have kids, you must know what im talking about and I am sure that conner does.

Look back, I have said something to that effect that he will learn better in his responsibilities and that I couldn't possibly be angry with him because of his age.

Just a quick note... Ophiura, I appreciate your posts. You have a nice way of expressing yourself and it is clear that you make a conscious effort not to demean anyone, even if you disagree with their statements. Not to kiss-up too much or anything but I always try to read your posts in discussions because your points are valid and backed up with logical explanations.
Now that all the love is in the air, I don't agree with your opinion on the ethics of Connors purchase. We can't even assume that the price is wrong... as I stated before, looks like this "sale" earned the store a customer. But we should be careful about making ethical judgments about each other. Everyone has different standards but people often seem to believe they are superior because they feel more ethical than someone else. Live and let live.

What happened to the owner in all this? His store, his employees and his coral stock. If it was MY store, I would write the prices right on the side of the glass. Atleast have a price chart for them to look it up.
Not that what he did was right. I would have asked if he was sure of the prices and maybe bought 1 or 2.
Just my .02

Thanks Crimzy

I do believe that all topics, even heated one's, can be discussed without need for names and negativity. It is sometimes hard to remember, even for myself, but it is something I do try to stick with.
