One of the Norway "Prisons" that would typically be used to house murders such as the guy from last week...

Norway's unrepentant mass killer, Anders Behring Breivik, is now under arrest. And he should count himself lucky for -- if entirely undeserving of -- a penal system in that country that is among the cushiest in the world. There's no capital punishment, and the longest jail term allowed is 21 years (a caveat: if a prisoner is deemed to still be a threat, his sentence can be extended in five-year blocks indefinitely, though it's highly unlikely, according to Norwegian officials). In Norway, rehabilitation is the guiding principle, not punishment -- a somewhat difficult notion to swallow given the gravity and callousness of his crimes.
"Both society and the individual simply have to put aside their desire for revenge, and stop focusing on prisons as places of punishment and pain," one Norwegian prison official told the Daily Mail. "Depriving a person of their freedom for a period of time is sufficient punishment in itself without any need whatsoever for harsh prison conditions."
Norway's newest jail may hold rapists and murderers, but Halden Prison -- the country's second largest and most secure facility -- looks more like a posh sleepaway camp. In fact, architects say they purposely tried to avoid an "institutional feel." When it opened in 2010, some news accounts called it the "most humane" prison in the world.
Indeed, one of the many perks at Halden is flat-screen televisions in inmates' rooms. There's no HBO, though, so reruns of Oz and The Wire
are contraband. Still, prisoners get private cells with mini-fridges and large windows to let in more sunlight. Here, then, is a quick tour of what luxuries may await Breivik behind bars. (That's a figure of speech, of course: There are no iron bars at Halden.)

Of course - how else do a bunch of putrid liberals run a prison???/ what'd ya expect? Our little barry hussein took 3 or 4 oriental terrorists OUT of GITMO and placed them on the island of Bermuda in a nice house on the beach - where they get ice cream every day - aint that f---in sweet!

its far better for prisoners to fight and rape one another until released and ready to become model citizens once again.

Tell us what you really think. Ironic that this nutjob is a right-wing Christian extremist.

That is true and it also illustrates how rarely people who claim to be Christian do this kind of thing. Unlike the everyday slaughter by the religion of peace.

you are talking poorly of their penal system yet they still have a far lower crime rate than the states. the article claims the focus is more on rehabilitation than punishment and it appears with only a few thousand imprisoned in a country of nearly 5 million (despite plush conditions) it is working.

And flatscreen TV's, gourmet meals, airconditioning, cozy cells - with pet priveleges, etc.

I say we need to create a lot more Tent cities and make the criminals earn the right to get rehabilitated through good behavior.

Freedom can be abused. We have the greatest freedom and unfortunately, the crime that comes from an immoral and depraved segment of society that abuses our freedom.

"Ironic that this nutjob is a right-wing Christian extremist"

Oh – you mean like Jarrod Laughner (Tucson Shooter) – sorry but he’s a crazy-pissed liberal…..SO you mean like Maj. Nadal Hassan? Nope – a wacko muslim…..So like Joe Stack (Austin IRS plane attack) – nope – another mad Obama supporter, pissed that’d he was gonna have to pay his taxes…Sorry – the only thing these wackos have in common is that they are nuts!
I guess you think the 19 muslims that flew passenger jets into buildings 10 years ago were what genius? "right-wing Christian extremist" - - wrong again – they are all deranged. And so was Tim McVeigh, Charles Manson, and most lately – Casey Anthony. Friggin deranged!
Your open hatred, mistrust, and anger towards Christians and/or "right wingers" is obvious though – but misplaced and sad in the end.

If they had BETTER gun laws in Norway things might have been very different…..If just 1 (one) counselor had access to a little .357, .45, or even a little 9mm – this thing could have ended LONG before the authorities arrived AND LONG before the idiot executed 70+ people. Concealed / open carry of fire arms works! A little shotgun "for snakes & wackos" would have saved lives just as well.
I made factual statements on how left wing thought has attempted to "improve" the prison system further in OUR
country by installing flat screen TV’s, private rooms with small pets, Chef prepared meals, congical visits, weight rooms, "art training", air-conditioning, bla, bla, bla, bla…Sheriff Joe Arpiao runs the correct "correctional facility" by feeding them cold sandwiches with warm water, making them sleep in the heat in tents, No TV, and regular "chain gang" style work detail……THEY ARE CONVICTED PRISONERS/FELONS – why send them to club med style prisons genius??? And YES, the current leader of this country DID sign the release paperwork to transfer 4 Chinese terrorists from club GITMO to the British Isle of Bermuda, where they live in a house with a beach/ocean view – and get ice-cream::

right-wing Christian extremists – Oh, I guess you must be referring to those lovable, fun, happy, & friendly characters over at MSNBC! These are surely the "right wing wacko types your referring to" – cause I find them odd - but they just don’t seem to be real "Christian" though…..Here are some very pleasant, but mostly "R" rated data on that networks MOST prized examples of "tolerance, acceptance, and outright LOVE of fellow man"::
http://james4america.wordpress.com/2010/11/05/olbermann-suspended-indefinitely-without-pay-for-campaign-contributions/ (little Keith in trouble for funneling money to democrat candidates)?

http://youtu.be/Qy8aqtIWWaw (MSNBC fires Keith Olbermann)?

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/msnbc-grover-norquist-was-gringrichs-butt-buddy/ (MSNBC Offends Again, Panelist Calls Grover Norquist ‘Gingrich’s Butt-Buddy’)

http://www.politico.com/blogs/onmedia/0511/MSNBC_suspends_Schultz_for_calling_Ingraham_a_slut.html (MSNBC suspends Ed Schultz for calling Laura Ingraham a sl*t)
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0611/58098.html (Panelist Mark Halprin calls the president a "d!ck")

I am SO glad that you never hear homophobic/sexist/bigoted/nutjob comments over on this charming network!! I assume these are the type of people you consider "normal, accepting, and balanced" – but when was the last time FOX news had to fire/suspend an anchor/commentator? I wonder, and do fill me in please genius…Most of the "talent" on MSNBC is usually medicated to be between suicidal & homicidal but one missed pill could lead one of them becomming the next big news story....
In the end – I don’t trust MSNBC or Muslims wearing bombs or slitting passengers’ necks to gain control of the airplane…. I don’t trust mothers that kill their children, wackos that shoot people, nut-jobs that blow up buildings or crazy people who proclaim to be God….I don’t discriminate what color you are/religion you follow, or grudge your holding against someone/something – if your planning a mass terror act or just to kill your child – YOU’RE A NUTJOB

If you think I really care of what some socilaist country does with it's penal system 1/2 way round the world, youre wrong. The OP and remark of this thread was that some wacko that EXECUTED 70+ people AND
blew up part of a town, would likely spend the rest of his life in a "CLUB MED" style [prison?] .. I find that sad.....and commented as such
If he had done that in MY state - he'd VERY LIKELY get the death penalty, and even though it might take 5-10 years for the idiot lawyers to fight for his life - eventually he'd get his date with the "table in Huntsville" so he could explain his actions to "a higher authority"
Our problem in the USA is our prison system has become somthing no one fears, and criminals don't mind going to......institute nationwide prisoner ammenities like Sheriff Joe employs in Arizona - our crime rate would plummett! Our crime rate rose, as states eliminated "chain gang" work detail and forced the taxpayer to start wiping prisoners asses with "ammenities/plushness/cable TV, A/C, weight rooms, etc. etc.etc".
