So i'm thinking about ordering 50lbs of live rock for $150 shipped..but the shipping method is UPS Ground which would take 3-5 days. Is this ok? Just dont wanna risk the rock dieing or anything. Has anyone had this experience?

I think $3. a pound is way over priced for rock you will get locally. It still comes out the same price per pound of the rock you are having shipped so i would go locally which gives you the advantage of picking out pieces you like

Locally. At least that way you can pick your pieces and wont have to recure them if its cured liverock already

Ground shipping to Wisconsin in January sounds like a terrible idea. Is there an overnight option?

ok guys my gf and I are in a bind.....we have 2 options...
1) Take our chances with the guy whom is selling by the piece vs lbs....and hope we dont get screwed. (Note: i was only bringing $150 with me in hopes of getting 50-60lbs)
or
2) Pay $300 and get 120lbs of live rock...from a local person thats selling all his live stock...all he has left is 120lbs....
Which would be the most logical approach?
Everyones vote counts :)

Is 120lbs too much? It's a waste is you have nothing to do with it. We actually keep a 55 gallon tank in the boy's closet (sorry boys) and put cool cycled rock pieces in there for future use.
The local rock is very very ugly right now. Gone are the days of going to the LFS and buying beautiful life-teaming rock. It all looks like base rock. It's also $7 bucks a pound locally.

On option one, why don't you bring a weight scale?

ups ground? where is it coming from? if its not too far, ups ground could get there within 2 days. as for locally, i'd take the 120 lbs over this guy who sells by the piece.

ok whats the rush. why not buy a few pieces locally that you like and that have some Coraline established. search out some nice pieces of suitable rock (dead and cheap ) add them to your tank and let nature take its course
