Well thats missleading. It may have been at the fully cured state when its setting in their tanks for a few weeks, but the mimnute it is removed from a tank and placed in a box and sealed up that fully cured live rock is starting to die, so therefore its not considered fully cured anymore, so it has to be recured or cycled......That is one issue I have with this webiste and their advertisement of their live rock and the paper they include with their shipments. It is very misleading to newbies. An experienced person would see its not exactly true as they put it in writing, but a newbie is apt to faithfully follow instructions provided and kill his critters. For allpractical purposes yu r going to have to treat it like uncured live rock, which is certainly not a big deal, and a lot better than cycling a tank with a dead shrimp no matter how long a shipment of LR is in transit.

yes that can work i have done that with numerous tanks .i would however do a fw dip on all of the LR before placing it in display tank to avoid any unwanted hitchikers from entering your display

So when setting up a tank... i ordered the fully cured base live rock... not the really expensive ultra premium stuff... i am glad i didn't because it sounds like it need to "re-cure" itself anyway huh?

Usually base rock is not taken care of by a shop as premium rock is and its not loaded with as much in the line of coraline or critters. Its usually rock thats bleached white or gray and is commonly what washes up on shore......thats why its cheaper, but over time it can become diverse if you seed it with some good live premium rock,. Heck you can throw a brick in the tank and in time it wil become a live brick.. Rock is just a place for critters and bacteria to live and a item to add eye appeal to the tank. It is virtualy impossible to ship even uptra premium rock across town without having it suffer die off and need to go thorugh a cycle once again. I personally would not give any of my live rock a fresh water dip as its not particular in what it kills off,. I will be the judge of what I want killed off and whatI want. Fresh water is indiscriminate in what it kills. If youyr just gonna have to wash it then use saltwater. The ony way ayour gonna no for sure when its safe to plut fish etc in it is to do water tests...........Once ammonia is at 0 and nitrite is at 0 and the nitrates are low, you can do a water change and start adding fish etc over a period of time....Your cycle may be a day or two or a week or two or a month.only real way is to test or use a ammonia indictor pad which is hung inside the tank and allows yu to monitor the ammonia level as it goes up and back down during cycle without a need to always be testing for ammonia. It can be left in tank after its cycled if you desire.

Well if you give the rock a freshwater dip your gonna induce yet more die off and add to cycle time and possibnle the level of ammonia etc that is going to build up, so you are risking killing those fish if that tank is not fully cycled before placing them in the tank. Forget about 1 week or 6 weeks or what have you, only a test or indicator pad can tell you when its ready to have inhabitants in it without killing them.

Can you QT rock???
If i add the base rock... then fish... then some good premium rock... then the rest of fish

It sounds like its cycled already. Like its been said if yu add more rock later you need to either cure it in a separate container just like yur doing a tank cycle, before adding it to the system that is up and running or sometimes you can add a small aamount at a time if the system is not overloaded with fish already, but its a much risky method. 10 is not a big deal with nitrates for fish, and a water change will reduce it even more.
