Unfortunately we have the technology to accomplish all that but the problem is that it is way too expensive to mass produce. But if the government would quit jacking around in the middle east and Venezuela over oil and help out our domestic car companies instead we might actually get to see some of this new technology.

I think the "idiots" mentioned before will keep on driving, no matter the cost of gas. Just like smokers always find money for cigarettes. We pay $1.97 for gas right now, and I hate it, but there is no reliable bus syetem where I live, and I do ride my bike, but I always did that anyway. I agree that the prices will go down, they always do.

Hey now, under your reasoning I am an "idiot" for driving my truck that gets 13 miles to the gallon. Well I have news for all you SUV haters. There are a minority of people who use their SUV or truck for reasons other than wanting to see above traffic. I also use mine to haul stuff around, and pull my gas guzzling boat in the summer. You don't hear me complaining that I have to shell out more money because I gave up on complaining about gas a long time ago. If it were more economical for me to own a mini cooper than my truck I sure as hell would, but it isn't so I am going to keep using up all of your gas until detroit pumps out a hybrid truck.

Howdy all! First, I gotta say howdy to Aggie 05. My name is Chad, and I'm a proud member of the fightin' Texas Aggie class of 'O6 AAAAAAAAAA! I'm new here, and I was just looking for posts on what fish to keep in a new reef tank, when I saw this topic. I wholeheartedly agree with Aggie05. I also drive a big truck. However, unlike some of you yahoos, I actually use it on a farm hauling livestock, and hauling materials to job sites! Anyway, the reason there aren't more alternative fueled cars is because Detroit hasn't felt the demand to produce them. Also, do you really think you could make an electric vehicle with decent battery life, and horsepower to tow a trailer? Get real! Not in a while, anyway.

They already have them out. Half gas half electric. Works off electric but when you floor it or are pulling gas kicks in.

I agree because trust me I used to work at a huge oil refinery and just because you boycott the top selling oil companies that won't make the gas prices come down. In fact you could end up hurting yourselves because an oil company cannot lower their prices to get more people to buy from them but they can raise them knowing that people are boycotting other companies and buying mostly from them. If you wan some type of a break on prices buy your gas between Monday afternoon and Wednesday night because normally the prices go up Thursday and come down Monday because of weekend travel. It also shoots up in the summer because of vacation and a few days before holidays depending on what holiday it is. Oil companies are not dumb. They have spent millions of dollars on research to find when more gas is sold and then they use that research to know when to raise and lower prices. So please don't hurt us all by trying a boycott.

yes simm, we do, several manufacturers make them. HOWEVER, haven't you noticed these are all CARS! Electric motors of that size can't currently provide enough added horsepower and torque to tow anything worth mentioning. Obviously you've never had to haul a serious load before. Until electric cars can turn out power EQUAL to gasoline and diesel engines, I will stick to my Chevy! Plus, the maintenane costs of an electric utility type vehicle would be ridiculous. How long do you think its capacitors would last with that kind of strain? Gas rules!

Just so yall know, not everyone at A&M drives a big truck. Only about 95% of us do.
Actually thats not true either, but its fun to play the country bumpkin role every once in a while.
howdy chadsig, if you want to talk with me about setting some stuff up AIM me at AggieZR2 or you can email me at rusty14_83@yahoo.com

Like it was stated earlier, not all of us drive SUV's just to see over top of everyone. For example, I drive an SUV. I also have a cavalier and a 99 Z28 but in the winter neither one of the cars will make it up or down my driveway. The cavalier hasn't been out for over a month now because the 4X4 barely makes it up my driveway. So I have one out of neccesity, not for looks. I admit though that the camaro I do have for looks and it eats almost as much gas as the SUV but you don't hear me complaining. Except that I wish winter was over. :D

Hey man, put a Z28 on the highway in 6th gear and you will get 28mpg. There isn't anything wrong with that. I actually came really close to getting a 2001 SS 6 speed but the 3500 dollar a year insurance for a 20 year old was sort of a drawback.:(

Yeah but I don't do alot of travel in it. It's mostly around town and I gotta show off so there goes my gas. And yes insurance is outrageous but oh well, if that's the cost of having my car it's worth it. BTW, I'm a girl. ;) :p

Remember this, those SUV drivers are buying more gas than economy cars. You know there is a tax on gas. The tax money on gas is used to build and repair roads and highways. If they lose that tax money, guess what, they are going to get it one way or another. I use my truck for work and the SUV for camping & hauling my boat. No silly little honda can do that, so leave SUV drivers alone because after all we are paying more taxes to fix your roads. Ride a bike(what a joke) tell that to a handicap person. You selfish fools this is America and we should be free to do what we want. Get rid of gas guzzlers and the price of gas will skyrocket.

I also like how none of these SUV haters go after the F-Bodies and vettes that also suck down the gas. People need to remember that there are a lot of other vehicles on the road that get terrible gas mileage other than SUVs. But that just shows the ignorance of the group.

We really don't have to worry bout the middle east for the gas most of their gas is shipped to europe and japan. Venezuela is the bigger issue for gas. With all the drug lords running the country.

How right you are Ty_05_f. I have tried to stay out this but you have hit the nail right on the head. In one vast swoop Chevron has lost hundreds of millions of dollars invested in Venezuela. All of that money is now gone and now that loss is being passed on to the consumer. If you think that you don't pay for it because you "Don't buy Chevron Gas" then you are also mistaken. Chevron as well as all other Refineries sell to many different gas stations.
