for all of us who aren't loaded with cash- bare with me- I bought a Toyota MR2 1989- quite a step up from my Ford Escort LX wagon- Here is the unfortunate shat about it- the people live only 12 miles away i couldnt get ahold of them for 2 days of persistant calling when i did- the sold the car to a dealer earlier that day and i ended up paying 3,400 instead of 2K:mad: but they put in a new engine and rebuit transmission- at the dealer it got new pads, tires, and a general tune up- it has 137kmiles but i have seen ones that are well maintained with 300kmiles so.. unfortuneatly it isnt the turbo edition but it sure can move- reads up to 150 redlines at 7k RPMs it also has t-tops which kick. but N E way here is the link to see the pic- ill take some pics and post later- the body and frame it virtually flawless- a few hairline scratches that might as well not even be there- interrior is nothing short of perfect- it is strange to hear the sound of a mid-engine car- im pretty hyped so.... :D

i was trying to get this so hard- i didnt have money for the 300 holding payment with me- i called my mom for an hour straight with no luck- i was freaking out- finnaly i got ahold of her and she took off work- came down and paid it- it was too close b/c right after we bought it the people who were going to buy it pulled in with their 2002 trans am and had a few nice words to say to me:D but needless to say i sped of and didnt give them a second thought- they were 40-50 anyway and had ample money to spend they just wanted it for a collectors item - i wanted it b/c for one i needed it and b/c it means 200% more to me than it did to them

Yes it's a turbo 230 HP 5 speed... ITS FAST!
Actually.....it is 227 hp at the crank but, only 196 to the wheels. :D Still one of my moister dreams.;)
Nice car kickster! Stereo stuff goes in the front. Sounds a lot different with the bass coming from the hood......er......trunk.

I have known a couple of guys with Mr. Twos that have great sound systems. Don't know the exact workings of em'. One guy has two 15" Rockford Fosgates in his hood/trunk thingy.

I've seen 8" behind the seats also, my buddy in overland park had an 88". Also at that milage if you know some one who can check the compression it would be a good idea, I rmember reading something about weak rings, but that could have been next generation after yours(probably turbos to)

One thing I would have checked right away is the timing belt. If the belt breaks on one of those little guys.......the whole engine basically has to come out......that is if all the pistons don't slap the top. Good engine.......just don't beat it too hard....the engine that is. :D Do you know which one it is? Non-turbo 1.6L, 1.8L, 2.0L....lots of em.

It depends, there are lots of VARIATIONS of this motor......most are 1.6L which are known for thier good amount of torque. Good little engine indeed. I have one in a 93 Celica.

Most of the U.S. models have 98-110hp. Not too shabby for a car that weighs nothing. They make a supercharged version as well............wheeeeeeeeeee!!!!;)
The timing belt is different on the MR-2s than other Toyotas. Can't tell you how to check it but, you should be able to find it......if you know a mechanic....they should be able to feel it to see if it is worn down.

You will figure it all out. I have never owned one myself so don't listen to me on it but, I have bought and sold about twelve or thirteen imports and I am getting keen on a few things to look for. Good luck.

That all depends on how bass you want to get them. If you're just looking for fill you get away with a 6" mid-bass driver behind the pass. seat w/ something like a 50-100 watt amp. If you want to let the world know your commin' , about all you'll be able to fit in the front is 10" or a really shallow 12" and you might want to have a shop do that one for you. Ask around at some of the pro audio stores in your area. Do some checking first though, just so you know, the starting point for something like this (new) around here is $500.00 and just like with fish and boats theres really no amount too high. IMO
