HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft of $70,000 worth of beer.
According to sheriff's detectives, two tractor trailers containing more than 3,000 six-packs and cases were stolen from K&N Trucking on east Adamo Drive in Tampa.
"Beer is a commodity that everyone wants, those of us who drink," said Tobias Platts, of K&N Trucking. "And I think also it's a commodity they knew they could get rid of quickly."
Officials said the tractor trailers were discovered missing when employees showed up at work Tuesday morning.
Sheriff's deputies found the trucks' cabs abandoned at a vacant lot in the 300 block Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Tuesday afternoon.
The trailers are still missing.
According to officials, one trailer contained 1,260 six-packs of Corona Extra beer. The other trailer contained 990 six-packs of Corona and 990 cases of Modella Especial beer.
