Pearlscale butterfly reef safe?

I just bought one at my local fish store and was told he will be ok in my reef tank. All I have reef wise is some mushrooms and some yellow polyps and a feather duster. I now read that these are not reef safe. Anyone have any experience with these in a reef tank?
Thanks

I don't think they live very long in the typical hobbiest aquarium.

I had one for 4 years until the electricity went out for 3 weeks and it was over 90 degrees the whole time. But keep in mind, I'm good!
There's no such thing as an easy butterfly, and I'd put Pearlscales and Threadfins in the middle somewhere. IMHO, they do a lot better than Copperbands and Long Noses.

Depends on the fish.
Clownfish - 20 years
Tangs - 40 - 60 years
Butterflyfish - 20 - 25 years
Neon Gobies - 1 year

It's really a wide range. It's very hard to document in the wild. Kind of hard to tag a damsel.
A lot of the info you find will be based on captivity. Some species actually live longer in captivity while others definitely don't.
