Thanks, good to be here. I think I like the layout much better than Aquaria Central, although their site is very seksy.

In any event, I trust none of them! The only shrimp I really trust are good ol' Lysmata amboinensis.

Was this a test, or were you asking?

Did I win a cookie, or maybe a gold star??

Welcome Ian!
It's a Lysmata seticauda. The only point is that a quick glance will not show the difference between a Coral consuming Peppermint and a Reef Safe Peppermint.
Of course, each animal is unique and there are no absolutes when it comes to animal behavior.

Which reaffirms my strong personal position of distrust toward "peppermints" in general. :)
Thanks for the second pic, Bang Guy!

Distrust is probably always a good idea, eh?

Well, I don't know about that; however, in this case I think there is plenty of evidence and confusion to vindicate it.

Let's just say I never want to dismantle rockwork again to round up some polyp munching SOBs which I thought to be of the non-coralivore persuasion!

Don't get me wrong; I am a very trusting person in general, and I recognize the point you were attempting to make. I will leave the taxonomy to those with time on their hands to measure antenna lengths, count scales, and map patterns.
(although I would like to count myself among the more perceptive at the end of the day)
Thanks!!
Ian

Why do you want them to R.I.P. if they are not dead? You aren't willing to get rid of them? If you would ship them I will be more than happy to pay for the shipping.

Smork, you are a shrimp hoarder.

Change your avatar text to read: "S3nd me ur Shrimps" or "All ur shrimps are belong to Smork"

Ian ;)

lol No i am not a shrimp horder. I'd rather see a species of anything go to someone that would like it and take care of it than to see it be in the hands of someone who wants it dead.

I kid, I kid.
I feel exactly the same way as you do, but alas I have only tanks of the reef variety and can't afford to be so charitable.
If I didn't have two young children I'd DEFINITELY have some LR only tank action... Who wants to trade kids for tanks??

Hey Bang Guy, I was wondering if you would perhaps go into a little greater detail here. I have what I believe is a peppermint shrimp and my LFS sells these and camels, as well as all the others you'd expect to find. Which ones are and aren't reef safe and how can I tell them apart? Just want to be sure because although the one I have isn't touching any of my coral, when I setup the 55 gallon I was thinking of getting more peppermints. Thanks!

If you want to be sure then ask your LFS where the Shrimp came from. L. wurdemanni are mostly from the Caribbean.
To be absolutely sure then just buy them from Saltwaterfish.com.
