So at lunch today I noticed that My Zoas that come in the mail with the spider and looked like they had the plague have super bright green forming in the centers. I know how its hard to see but the centers are really bright! I cant believe it. sure the body of the Zoa looks a little hashed but I'm sure the green is a good sign they are recovering?
Just thought id share cuz I'm super stoked!

They seem like they are starting to respond, update use in a week I'd really like to see some progression shots. When I have my tank back to specs I'll be ordering some zoa's as my first new corals, once I get rid of another 8 or so BTA's.

Hmmm button polyps. Are those a type of Zoa? oh crap I see now. 10+green center buttons is what I ordered. didn't even register the button part. Wow I feel kinda dumb now.

Not really the zoanthids that most people think of when they say 'zoa' but they're basically a much larger variety. They're pretty cool and spread quickly; more so if you throw them some food.

Cool! Thanks Speg. I actully put a tiny bit of that Marine snow in a airline tube and put it in the powerheads stream. I dont know if it did any thing. I dont really know about that stuff other than that it looks nasty. It made all the tiny green rectangles on my Zoas turn to circles though. It looked like little mouths opening...
What would you feed a button polyp? I suppose I should find that out on my own.
I guess I ment what do you feed YOUR button polyps? I want them to spread :)

I'm not all that familiar with marine snow.. my brother used it once and showed me and looked like something you'd see at the ending sequence of an X-rated film... :p
The button polyps that I had liked more of a zooplankton type of food, or even mysis shrimp if they polyps are large enough.

I'm horrible with the names... but try to google green dragon eye zoanthids. I purchased a couple of these small little frags in my nano (2 for 5 dollars).. if you want something that grows quickly... look no further :p These things grow like crazy and look really cool.
Maybe next time you make a purchase ;)

They go through some weird stages that I don't quite understand. Sometimes they'll look like how yours do and sometimes they'll fan out with really long skirts like smaller zoas.
Mine had skirts and then lost them and looked like yours.. now they have skirts again... not sure why they do this!

To me they look like the bottom part of an acorn.
So they go through changes? I can kinda see those finger like things inside the edges.
Are they good at the top part of my tank about 10" from my lights?
they are pretty cool. Kinda remind my of Zoas from the wrong side of the tracks.
Thanks everyone
Ill put up another pic soon, when something happens. :)

What type of lighting do you have? They seem to do better in lower light with ocassional feeding.

Right now I have 300w of MH. perhaps I should gradually move them lower in the tank? Im going to do some reading on the subject since they are not what I thought they were. :)

Oh yeah, those need to be somewhat lower in a tank with halides.. 300w is pretty darn strong.
(edit) is that 300w total light? like two 150w?

you guessed it Speg. two 150 aquamedic pendants. they sit about 6 inches off the surface. perhaps I should raise them to 10"? It seems like a lot of light for one button frag, two Zoa frags, a mushroom and a bunch of Xenia.
those lights are giving me an evaporation headach as well.
