That sounds just right IMO for a Calcium level of 420 - 440ppm.

i asked some other people, and they said that since I switched from a PC setup to 500W MH, that I photoshocked some of my corals...
my XENIAS look like they are melting.. shrooms arent sprouting how it should..
its been 4 weeks.. do u think its possible i did that? is it too late now?

I'm pretty sure that's what happened.
Many types of corals bleach when photoshocked. If they've survived this long then they should be able to regain their zooxanthellae.
Slowly acclimating them to the lighting would have been the safer approach.

I messed up! my MH DE bulbs have no UV shield.. i put it in my canopy but I never put a shield.. its been a few weeks since the transition..
do you think my corals and fish have cancer now??
i noticed when i switched to MH from PC, i shocked some of my corals. none of them look healthy. I kept thinking it was because I didnt acclimate the corals to new lighting.. BUT do you think the UV rays is what made them weak?
anyone know of consequences of UV rays in a tank?:notsure:

My understanding is that after being bombarded by unshielded UV "rays" that some of the cirralanthid worms (the ones with "pincers") can mutate and become ambulatory and amphibous...crawling out of your tank at night (when lights are out) and into your bedroom ...
Where they crawl onto your pillow and into your ears ...where they bore into your skull in search of Brain tissue to lay their eggs...:scared:

Better stuff newspapers under the door and sleep with a wet towel wrapped around your head at night...

Just Kidding...:hilarious
The UV is not as big a concern as the photoshock the corals went through...
You already have "some" UV protection to the tank with the tank covers...
The bigger concern would be the exposure to your hands as you work in the tank at present...
But your working on that (shields) so no big deal either...
Check your other thread for more information...
