ph problem

Hello,
I have a 12gal nano with live rock, live sand. Amonnia, nitrate, and salinity levels are within range, but I cant get my ph to 8.2, its around 7.9 now. Tank is about 1 month old. I have 1 clown, 1 damsel, 1 shrimp, 1 turbo snail. I've tried baking soda, and did a 10% water change. Water not oxygeniating enough? Do I need an airstone?
Thanks for your help

I would use something called ph up or something to up your ph..lol.. do another water change in a week also. you'll be fine.

DO NOT USE PH UP, Baking Soda or ANYTHING like that to adjust your PH. You could test for and add alkalinity if necessary with PH UP or Baking Soda, then test for and add calcium if necessary but IMO water changes should be adequate for a 12g w/o lots of corals.
Do you have an enclosed top?? If so, Is there any air exchange?? What do you have for circulation??
btw, 7.9 isn't all that bad. I would try to correct whatever is dragging it down but no drastic action is needed!!

I agree with ReefNut, that's why I asked how often you do water changes. 7.9 isn't bad at all, nothing to be worried about. As long as you do water changes often (often = weekly) pH is what it is. Test your ALK and CA levels, and add a buffering agent accordingly. You'll be fine. :joy:

I will do a 10% water change bi-weekly. Fish seem perfectly healthy. My turbo snail keeps the tank very clean, except for the sand, still has diatom growth.
Thanks for all the help.
Great site.

For circulation I have the pump that came with the nanocube 12gal. The tank has good movement, diatoms appear to be clearing up nicely. Sand is white again.
