thank you, and that is a green brittle star its prob about 12'' across its a monster i make sure to spot feed him every day because i have eard stories and i had a cleaner shrimp come up missing! anything else suspicious and it will be in the sump. it got in a fight with my very large zebra crab, the crab too a chunk out of his leg, but the crab got killed. and the next day, the star chewed his own leg off, and its in the process of growing back right now so i think he'll think twice before it gets out of line again lol

to tell you the truth it has been a long time since i have tested for trates but last i checked there were none but i am very happy with the results from it especially the cost and time i vave in it it's prob the cheapest thing ive ever bought for my tank
I agree it was a minimal investment and simple to set up. I just keep hoping if I am patient that the nitrates will start to drop. I have been letting it go longer between scrapping to see if that will help, the algea is just now starting to really fill in as a thick mat. It is interesting because according to almost everyone I have talked to and things I have read, all of my coral and inverts should be dead, but they are all growing well and thriving.
I would think my test kit is wrong but on hubbies tank it is low with the same kit. It is working for me, so I guess I will wait it out a bit and see if the ATS drops them.

like the zebra crab for sale here on SWF.com??? i was thinking of getting one but idk now lol!!! i have 3 emeralds and ya there kool but i want a zebra one, i have a hitchhicker crab and he has zebra on the bottom of his carpace but the rest of him is like green and kinda fuzzy. Hes tiny like 4cm shell. He also stays in the darkness in his spot....but the thorny zebra one looks awsome!

how high is high for your trates? if you dont have sps you should prob be fine any way. imo i think lps and softies like somewhat dirtier water and hardly any flow at all

It is hard to tell on our test kits what your nitrates are once they are over 80. It had been super dark red (guessing 80-100) for several months and today when I checked it looked like between 40-80. I just did a 25gal water change and replaced all my bioballs with live rock rubble prior to testing. I don't have any SPS yet. My hubbie is holding a frag of a pink tabling acro for me in his tank, I have been hoping to get then nitrates down before putting it in my tank. Maybe it will just stay in his tank. I have noticed a few of the LPS that say moderate flow won't open up in my tank unless I have them in low flow. They seem happy there.
