Thanks Joe! I'm a couple months from being ready for livestock but that sponge is a PRIME candidate if it's still around in the Spring. Excellent specimen.

If it wasn't for the blue color and Spanko's comment I would of never guessed sponge. Hey Joe are you hanging in there?

I didn't realize it was a sponge either. I have it in my tank also. It came in as a hitchhiker 2 years ago and I have had it spreading in my tank ever since. Florida Joe, was your rock farmed in Gulf waters? The LFS that I got mine from aqua cultured their own live rock and used water from the Gulf.
Does your's look like blue strings? I have a few patches but most of it is thick blue strings.

Wow that's what a spong looks like!? It reminds me of silly string. Do fish or inverts eat sponges?

It actually seems to have long runners coming off a central mass.
I actually found that rock at low tide at the beach here in Naples

I have seen my Kole pick at it, not sure if it eats it though
