As you can see in the first picture my LMB would rather sit and enjoy the green fuzzy rather than eat it. Anyways I attached two pictures so you could all get the idea of length and size of the hair algae my tank is 30" high 47 Gallon. Any ideas how to get rid of it. My tank has been up for almost 5 months I use RO water, temp 81ish, trates 0, trites 0, ph 8.3, 1.024 salinity , I have tried Emaralds and a lawnmower blenny my next thing is to try a sea hare, but do you thinks the algae is to long already for the sea hare? It would be a major pain to try to take all the rock out and scrub, but if thats the way its got to be I guess I'll do it. Is there possibly a tool I could use to cut or scrub while siphoning it. It would have to be a long tool because of the hight of the tank. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

you might try a hard bristle plastic brush. once it get so long the LMB wont touch it plus its a 50/50 chance they will eat the short stuff.

1st. nice tank and fish. love the purple. second. how long have you had the lmb? it may still be getting used to the tank. also, try keeping the temp a bit lower. get it to 78 over the next two weeks or so. remember. the more gradual you do it, the less they stress. i think a lower temp will help control algae.

a lower temp will slow the growth but finding the cause and fixing that is the only real fix to the algae.

I am having a hard time keeping the temp down below 81. I just got a new 250 watt metal halide, and I've only been keeping it on for 6 Hours a day to keep the temp low. And yes the LMB was just added from my QT tank 2 days ago.

I would just give him some time to adjust and try to keep the algae as low as possible.
what are your water readings at and what is your water source.

What are your phosphates at? If they are high you will get extra algea. One thing you could try is on your next water change take out the affected rocks and scrub them with a brush (I've always used a new toothbrush) in the old tank water and then place them back in. Next keep the lights off for a day or two.
But I would def test for phosphates because if those are high the hair algea will just keep coming back. Just my $.02
