How to make Old-Fashioned Buttermilk Pie:
1 cup sugar
3 T flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 egg yolks
1 3/4 cups buttermilk
2 T butter, melted
3 egg whites
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
one unbaked single-crust Foolproof Pie Crust pie shell
Line greased pie pan with piecrust. Combine sugar, flour, and salt in a large bowl. Add egg yolks, buttermilk, and melted butter. Mix well. In another bowl, beat egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff.
Fold egg whites into buttermilk mixture. Mix carefully and pour into the prepared pie pan. Bake at 375-degrees for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. This pie is a neat cross between a custard pie and a meringue. And it’s just plain yummy!

If you want the foolproof pie crust recipe too I can add that. Just ask.

I thought it had eagle brand in it...

Yeah, well...It was kinda forced on me. I was on the same train of thought. Had a salad for lunch, getting back off the Thanksgiving excess eating.
I had mentioned to a coworker that I never had buttermilk pie (she was making some).
So she brought in two pieces. Truthfully I believe
I was supposed to share it. It was a low point in the day, and I ate them both. I didn't even get a fork. I ate it with my hands.
Basically it is NOT my fault.

Ha ha. Nice try. But I know my place is right behind the pie.
With a fork.

Pie is especially good.
Pecan is my favorite. A-la-mode.
Peanut butter pie is pretty darn good.
Real Key Lime pie is up there on the list.
Heck, any pie is great!

OH......I so relate to that. I think thats what happened to the few pieces of leftover pumpkin pie with homemade whipped cream at my house this last weekend

(no one asked and Im not tellin'..)
coconut cream pie
pecan pie (sometimes with choc chips)
homemade pumpkin pie
chocolate cream
so is the buttermilk pie sweet or have the true flavor of buttermilk?

This was my great grandmother's recipe and no eagle brand in it....I'm sure there are a lot of other recipe renditions but this is the old fashioned recipe. It took a lot of pleading and begging to get this from her. lol
