I'm not above killing them, but it's got to be humane. Causing suffering because I don't like what they do to my yard..... I don't fly that way.
If I squirt them with the hose everyday, do you think that would deter them at all or would I just be supplying them with water to drink?
Probably getting them water. I really have no idea how to get rid of birds like pigeons. But I have seen people string mono-filament fishing line up in their patios to keep the seagulls out. They make sure they are too close together for them to fly in. And it works quite well...

Oh, and what I use can't deter the hummingbirds..... I love those little guys. They do, however, hang in different areas.

Well if you can't beat them, join them...build a coop to house the pigeons and feed them there so they are going to one place instead of all over..If they have a place to nest they won't be where you don't want them...MAYBE

I was in the local hardware store and they had plastic owls with a motion detector, the head moves when something triggers it. Might work.

Since you will not feed them Alkaseltzer. Try Cayenne Pepper will not kill them however when they see the flock leader trying to fly with his or her head UNDERWATER they will avoid your house like the plague. My mother did this a few years ago even went so far as lace the water in the yard with Tabascco. Now all she has to do is 3 drops of red food coloring and nothing touches her water fountains at all.
