america is a land of immigrants.... it is the greatest country in the world....we need to protect our borders but continue to allow people to come in the country legally

HOLLA!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey i have food for thought, you know how the cubans are always making vessels out of anything and reaching the florida waters, do you think that the builders deserve to stay if they make it. C'mon, building a boat to transport 50 Cubans out of barrels and car pieces is pretty amazing, at least give them a chance.

hey are on a fixed pay scale....... your not paying them "extra" at all.
I think we'll be paying for more guards, not paying the ones we have more money.
what good would it do to guard the boarder for 2 weekends a month? then they can just come over on a different day?

The way to approach this situation is to give every Mexican a US Tax ID number and open our border completely. If they choose to work in the states they will pay taxes, if not then they still have the option but are not required to pay income tax. Basically set it up as a commonwealth. THEN we help them seal their southern border. Their border is MUCH smaller and easier to monitor. Voila! Instant drop in South American drug trade and Mexico and the US are MUCH richer. It really would be a win-win situation. Mexican citizens would not be elligible to vote but would be legal to work. The Mexican southern border would also require only a handful of troops as opposed to thousands. As far as language is concerned....I agree that they should at least be able to communicate clearly in English. However, we do not have an official language which means that it is not illegal or even wrong for them to speak their native tongue. We have just as much responsibility to learn Spanish if we know we will be working with them. Our forefathers had the foresight to understand that if we were to truly be a nation of free souls then we could not put limitations on language and creed (later race). Ever go to france or certain parts of germany where they wont even look at you if you cant speak their language FLUENTLY?? Its the same thing. Prejudice. The only difference is that they do have an official language. And to whoever said that having multiple official languages doesnt work I beg to differ. Most EU countried have at least 2 official lanaguages and often times many more.

the plan, as far as I understand it, is to ACTIVATE the Guard, not post them there twice monthly, so I don't agree.
I also don't agree about giving them tax id's and opening the borders to allow them to work and pay taxes. because they'd then have the option too to come here and sit on their butt and have us pay their healthcare, which is one of the main problems to begin with.
you are also wrong to say that it is our responsibility to learn spanish, it absolutely is not. english is the language that nearly 300 million people here speak, it's not 300 million peoples' responsibility to accomodate someone else. the point of european nations having 2 official languages is not even a point.....this is not Europe. Europe is a continent full of many different countries with different languages. North America is not.
no, I've never been to France or Germany and have them refuse to acknowledge me for not knowing their language, because frankly, I've never seen a French or German that I cared to speak to. If I want to move there though, I'll learn their language.

what is "good english"? are you talking about dialect? people from South Carolina, New Jersey, Wyoming, and Minnesota all sound very different from each other but can still understand each other, it's still english. very big difference in regional dialects and being completely unable to speak a language.

I work on the phones so I'm constantly taking calls. When I get people who can't speak english it's the most frustrating thing ever. Especially since I work for a vitamin company and the words are impossible to understand coming from somebody like that.
If they want to move here and get all the benefits then learn everything as well. They should have an english speaking class for people trying to become citizens that way there wouldn't be any of this confusion.

If they make it to shore they are allowed to stay. If they are caught out at sea, then they are shipped back.

They do not all serve their two weeks at the same time. It is rotated.

nope.

A pres can serve more than 8 years. if pres dies and vice pres takes over, he can be elected for two terms. So he can only be elected for two terms, but can serve more (I think it's 10 years, but I'm not sure anymore)
I didn't know non-citizens rights were protected by the bill of rights.

I totally agree, but the first statement I kinda don't, aren't all the jobs that illegals get open to anyone, i'm sure any american can apply for those positions

it is virtually impossible for an American citizen to support themselves (much less a family) on what the illegals will work for, especially with no benefits. an American cannot legally work any job without paying taxes. if they report taxes, which the law requires them to do, then the employer must also pay taxes and also give benefits such as workers compensation. so the answer to your question is, no, an American cannot feasibly apply for the same positions and legally work in those positions even if they were willing to do it for the low money. the illegals however will do it because they can send half of what they make back to Mexico and it amounts to a good living there. this is why you may notice several illegals living in one house......they can't afford to support themselves alone in the US, but they can live together and support their families in Mexico.
as far as the test, you don't have to know all the questions as far as I know, you just have to know enough to pass the test. and like the poster before me, I knew the vast majority of answers, as any educated American adult should.
