My girlfriend has had this piece for over 4yrs now. Doesnt grow but I think its because there is no room for it to grow as it is stuck on top of an isolated rock. Its purple in color. I love this piece and want one of my own but she wont let me touch it to take a piece off. What coral is this so I can look for one on my own?
Thanks!!

Goniopora and Alveopora are both commonly referred to as Flowerpot Coral. They are very different though. That's a big issue I have with using common names for identification purposes.

Its for sure going on over 4yrs she has had it. There are not individual polyps either. Its a one piece mat over the top of the rock
Meowzer - I thought the same but she would still notice. I did it on two other of her corals she she caught it quickly.

I agree. I was so focused on common names for so long that I am trying to ween myself from using them. Not an easy thing to do.
