Please ID what's growing on my live rock

Hi all...
Can anyone tell me what this black stuff is that's growing on my rock? It started small and is slowly taking over....Thanks in advance...

I have heard of it before...it smells? That doesn't sound good. I think it had someting to do with old reefs, Florida Joe had a thread on it a long time ago if memory serves. I'm just hanging out to find out what it is too...

Black encrusting sponge I would guess. Possibly an Oscarella sp.

Yeah....I think I agree...I have something like that and I'm pretty sure it's spongey not algae like
