Please recommend an external pump!

I need an external pump for my water return. I have an Oceanic 75g RR and will have a 20 - 30 gallon sump. Which pump should I go with? In case it matters, I'll also be setting up a closed loop with a 1" outtake returning to a 3/4" Sea Swirl (I need to purchase this pump as well). Thanks!

You will want your return pump to match, or slightly less, than your overlfow gph. You need to find that out first. For external pumps I would look into iwaki or little giant. After you find out what your overlfow is then just match it to the appropriate pump.
For the closed loop with a 1" intake maybe a mag 12, CSL T3 or something comparable.

The T3 Velocity external pump, if you want more flow the T4. Super, and I mean super quiet.

How good are these Laguna pumps anyways? I always hear people talking about Mags, Iwaki's, LG's, Quiet One's, etc.. but never, ever Laguna.
Why is that?

Hey, james, what's the overflow rating on your 90g all-glass. I looked all over their site and couldn't find it. That's the tank I've got. I emailed them, but haven't got a response yet...

No expert here but I use a pump slightly bigger than my overflow is rated. Then I place a T on the output sending some back to the sump which is controled by a valve. This allowed me to T off again and use one pump keep the sump moving as well as feed my reactor. I do the same with my refugum. Any extra water is T'ed off and returned to sump. Seems to give me more control with fewer pumps....Do need to be careful not to produce xtra head presure for the pump or send too much to main tank but after it is adjusted seems to work ok.. terry

for external got to go with the iwaki's wonderful pumps. for internal nothing but a mag. cept for powerheads, those are maxi's :D
