pods and sump sponges

will pods pass through a sump sponge(square sponge to stop bubbles on a oceanic sponge)
just set my fuge up in the sump and have one of those sponges before the return side. wondering if the pods will pass through or if i have to remove the sponge?

I wasn't sure either so this is what I did
Have half a wall keeping fuge in place....put a small piece of eggcrate between wall and return section....then I cut a piece of eggcrate to put in return section...attached to left wall...and I clip a piece of floss onto it for the extra filtration.
