Pods are tiny organisms that live in and around the reef. In tanks they hide and live in the cravices of the rock. Some fish (manderins) live mainly on pods. I dont have any pics, but there should be some in the archives, they look like little white insects. The few types of pods that i know of are amphipods and copeopods which i think are the 2 main types in reef tanks

do they grow on their own from a fresh tank, or do i have to have to buy live rock that already has them?

they will need to be introduced into the SW tank they just dont appear.
LR is the best way to get them in the tank or buy them somewhere.

Yea my experience with them was a few, then a bunch, then they disappeared for awhile. Then I added a referigum with nothing in it at 1st. Now 4 months running, it and my whole tank are booming with pods. Where ever I look their, there. :joy:

i would think you could get them at a lfs. i got mine at a place in orlando called "ernie's seven seas". grab the yellow pages and start calling around to see who has them. or look on the internet supplier's websites

If some start spawning inside of your tank, is it possible for them to be sucked into the refugium on their own so that they can colonize down there and then be pulled back up for fish to feed on? Maybe thats far fetched... but its an idea.
