Polyps?

Hi guys...another question...
What are "Xenia Polyps" ? And also what are "Polyp Stones"?
What are the benefits of them in our tanks?
Thanks again,
James :)

I'll guess on the Xenia. I have no idea what a Polyp Stone is though.
Xenia Polyps are just the part of the Xenia above the stalk. They are pretty useful for a quick check of tank parameters. They hate changes in the water so if something changes they close up. It is then time to test the water to see what changed. I also use them for nutrient export but I have no information on what they actually export so I can't recommend them for that purpose. My guess is that they consume nitrates and phosphate.

I have often heard of Polyp rock, maybe that is what it is. If so, it is just pieces of live rock that contain a number of polyps of some type. They might be Yellow, Green Star, or some Zooanthids. What is the benefit? It would be mostly aesthetic. They are considered easy or hardy corals. Obviously they are neither LPS or SPS, but then neither are mushrooms. I like polyp rocks.
