the filter fits good into the back corner of tank so i figure i can just put plants around it. been busy all day but tomorrow i hope to get some progress. but tomorrow i am also calling a girl and asking her on a date so i may be in shock all day and not be able to depending on the response lol.
Just bring a few pics of the ponies. Women are suckers for cute little animals.Hope you have a great time

well i called her today and i did good at first but i had to go soon so i popped hte quesiton about going ot mall/food and she said her friend is moving so she will have to see cause she might hang out with her friend this weekend.
but there have been alot of good signs so it culd be she is nervous, telling the truth, or is not interested.

Well, if I had to read between the lines, I'd wager that her friend is moving and she is interested do to the fact that she said she'd check her calendar to see if she could make time to hang out with you.

I sure hope so. It would take me a while toget over her if that is not true.
and if she calls back or something and says she would love to hang out i will probably be like
i would be so happy

anyway back to fish..waiting on my mom to pick a spot in my room that i can put it. after that i will put water, turn filter on, and TEMPORARILY add a few pieces of small rock to help seed tank.
The nursery tank will be bare bottom but display doesn't have to be right? i read black sand is great for tanks cause you can find dead ones, baby ones, and see them overall easier.

the tank has a leak wich i tried to fix but it is still leaking after a couple days. i think i'm gonna have to byu a new 5 gallon after all that cleaning i did...
Question:
sponge filter has a tube going up..does tube have to be completely underwater for filter to work? i tested filter in the tank and it didn't seem to do anything.

Is the filter the intake tube? If so, then definitely yes, it must be submerged.
If the unit isn't running I suspect you'll have to open up the unit to expose the little magnetic pump fan. Pull it out, rinse, and reassemble.

sponge filter...two pieces of plastice with a sponge. and a tube coming out the top hwere you put airline in.

not at all. it has a heavy plastic base with a tube with slits going up into a big sponge. then the same thing without the base on the top and a big clear tube coming out. there is a spot at the end of the tube to hook an airline on.
you can use airline or powerhead it says, but i figure airline would be safer/easier. i'll try to find it on amazon real quick.

Neato! I've never seen that type of filter. From the looks of it I'd definitely submerse it.

well i'll have to cut the tube in half..that won't effect the filter right? cause the tube is 1-2+ inches above the water line
PS: i may have fixed the leak from the inside but i am gonna give the sealent one more day before adding water and trying it again. going to LFS in a few days i think to get heater and possibly new tank.

Does this filter just have a air bubbler? Or does it have a submersible pump?
Hope the glue works. LFS charge a arm and a leg for tanks.
When do you plan on getting your ponies?

if everything goes well i will get them in a week or two probably.
the filter is a big round sponge. on the bottom is a base with a filter-intake-looking thing going up into the sponge. on the top there is a 'bulls eye' there oyu connect the air line. under the bulls eye is just another intake-looking-thing. on top of bulls eye you hook the tube.
there is no metal, no mechanical things. just plastic and a sponge.

i got a heater and sand today!
the sand is..
Estes' ultra reef marine sand (it was cheap/only black sand there)
it's really fine sand..says it's an abrasive mineral (meaning?) and it bubbles up when i put it in there and moved it aorund but i think i got all of it gone. it won't keep making ugly black sand bubbles when micro bubbles get into the sand will it?
heater is..
PENN-PLAX Cascade HEAT - 10 gallons..
adjustable and maintains the temperature and comes with a temp scale on the front of it. shock resistant glass convering..insulation..all the goodies. not a big name brand i dont think but it looks pretty nice.
pics will come soon (i promise this time!)

I use various sizes of the Hydro sponge filters for my QT tanks and seahorse fry/juvenile tanks. The large rigid tube can be cut to any length, but must be under the water. I usually cut mine about 1-2" from the waters surface. They are good filters for biological filtration.
