i don't mean to sound dumb but how do you know what --- the fish is?

If it's a pair the larger is Female.
If it's immature (not related to age) it is ungendered (neither male nor female).
If it's single and mature it's female.

thanks bang i was a little confused. I just got two maroon clowns and wanted to know. I don't have a digital camera or i would post them for you all but they are really cool looking they have different markings than what i have seen around san deigo. :happyfish

Just got these little guys tonight... person I got them from said they were a wild, mated pair...
only been in the tank a few hours.. and i'm hoping to eventually breed them.
only thing else in the tank is a lawnmower, 3 hermits, and some snails, and a couple pounds of liverock...
((tank is a 30 gallon))
