No its not a typo. I recently had another dog pass away at 23. I used to own an animal rescue. At one point I had two pure bred timber wolves, a black Tundra wolf, 8 dogs, 6 cats, and a 5' camon crocodile in my personal collection of kids. I've kept everyone until they have passed of old age. I've had the wetie no since I was 17. Every vet says I should write guinness book of world records and request a catagory for the world's largest lab. They only have a catagory for largest dog and by that standard he is no where close. The picture doesn't do his size justice. T bed he is on is actually two of the largest size beds pushed together. He is 32" around the neck for his collar. Everyone who sees him in person has to stop and talk about his size. Both dogs were just given a clean bill of health recently from the vet too. They eat chicken every morning. I will cook a 10 lb. ( leg quarters) bag at a time ( sometimes two ) while the meat is cooling and still soft I sit in front of the TV and pull all the meat off. I then put it into containers in the fridge. Every night they are given beef ribs. I buy racks of ribs cook them slightly and cut them into individual. I let them eat what they want. I keep these refrigerated too of course. Vet says to put him on a diet; I say let him go out enjoying himself. Why take away now at this age what he has grown up on. Everyone of my dogs lived real old and none ever had any sicknesses. I fed them all this way because I started with the wolves. My belief ( not fact ) is that all my dogs have gotten so big because of eating meat since birth. They would laugh at you if you tried to feed them dog food.
Great pics. so far, keep them coming.
Where do your dogs get their vitamins and minerals from that are not provided in a meat-only diet? I'm confused.

actually, it's a common practice to feed a meat only diet. it's uncommon to cook it first. raw meat and raw bones.
dogs didn't eat vegetables in the wild. they hunted and killed animals, and ate them raw.

I agree with Mr. X......that's why we've been feeding our dogs the BARF diet for years now. (BARF = Bones and Raw Food but some now use the acronym to stand for Biologically Appropriate Raw Food). I won't get on a soap box here but if anyone is interested do a search for BARF - there is a LOT of information on why to do it and how to do it. I sometimes give my dogs kibble as a back up if I'm not going to be home for their meat feeding but please examine what's in the dog food you feed. Cereal/grains/corn is NOT a healthy diet for a dog.

Very good advice! I tried feeding Benny a raw diet because he is sensitive to certain foods, but he wouldn't have anything to do with it. Now he is on Taste of the Wild Bison & Venison formula and doing very well. If any one is interested in how their dog food stacks up, check out http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com Aim for something in the 4-6 star range. Grain free and high protein is best.

Great link - haven't been to that one! If you ever get the urge to try your dogs on raw again, try grinding the food. A few of mine have turned away at the hunk of raw chicken but when I put it in a meat grinder and serve it in a bowl they inhale it. I also feed it that way when I'm in a hurry because to put hunks of chicken in their bowl leads to them grabbing a piece and heading off for the couch or rug. If I can't be standing right there to make them stay put, I feed them raw ground up. They HAVE to stay at the bowl to eat that! :)

Vitamins ?
My dog is 174 lbs. and about to turn 17 years old and has no health issues.
My other one is about to be 23 years old and has no health issue.
They've eatin meat since birth. The chicken always cooked. But I used to do all thier red meat raw.
Now that they are older I find that it seems like they like there ribs slilghtly cooked better.
They still eat groung beef raw. I'm not an expert in health and nutrition, but I'd say I have a better track record in the health of all my dogs than comercially made dog food any day.
Remember out of my 6 dogs that rest in piece,
they have lived between 17 and 23 years with not a one of them ever being sick. My two living dogs have never been sick, have all there teeth, no health issues and amaze every vet they see ( especially the lab ) They are obviously getting lots of vitamins. Anyway, wasn't trying to be harsh, just sarcastic. These dogs are my children and I love them more than is explainable.

This has been a great thread. There are alot of amazing dogs on here, In fact all of them are ! Lets see some more dogs !!!!!!!!!!

dude, our dogs eat better than me an my gf do, we spend anywhere between 40-100 bucks every 2 weeks on dog food, dry, blue buffalo/innova evo/taste of the wild buffalo an venison, an then the cans, well, we prefer the merrick cans, that stuff actually looks good enough to eat, and then twice a week, roughly, we cook them a meal of fresh beef, either steak or hamburger, in the wok, with assorted vegetables with vitamin supplements mixed in, an the dry an can food gets mixed together an fed to em once a day, and they are in perfect health, they're still young, but the vet is amazed at their teeth most of all, our 5 y/o female half pit has the teeth of a 6-7 month old puppy, they're pearly white, all of their teeth are like that though LOL
