powder brown tang acting crazy

Hope someone can help. I just purchased a great looking powder brown tang for my 35 hex and it goes crazy swimming along the sides of the tank, but this happens only at night. It eats everything in site, but I can't even keep the light on at night cause I think he's gonna hurt himself. Anyone have any suggestions?? Will this stop??

I dont think he will stop, you should research the needs of a fish before purchasing one. The tang you currently have is a fast open water swimmer and requires a tank that can provide at least 6 feet of length for him to swim back and forth(at least 100 gallon tank). I am affraid your fish may get stressed and die quite soon.

He doesn't do this at all until it is dark outside and the lights are on, they're not on untill about 430 everyday and i just got him.
Its like he is trying to pick a fight with the image he's seeing in the sides fo the tank.

What would you suggest? I have only one other fish in there, a juvenile emperor angel that is doing great. Does it matter that I just got that tang on Wed?

Just over a month. I'm not worried about the angel growing up, he won't survive if he gets bigger? i guess this is just a misconception of the fact that he would. i just want a few fish, 2 or 3, and those that u have listed aren't very attractive to me. Any other types of tangs that wold do ok in my tank?

i do plan to get a bigger tank eventually. i just don't understand why that tang is fine until it is dark outside, even with the light on. i hope that my lfs will take him back, he said he would if had any problems. I started my tank with live sand and 20 pds of liverock. readings are perfect. i'm pissed cause i really like that fish, he's got a great personality:nope:

Sorry for the bad news. I have to agree with everyone else though. There just aren't any Tangs that will be normal in a 35 hex.

If you have your heart SET on keeping these two fish. You can get away with a 55 gallon for about 1-2 years AT THE MOST.
I would reccomend around a 75-90 gallon tank. If you plan on keeping these fish.
Look on this site for fish that stay around 2-4 inches. That should be a good size for you 35 Hex.

Aaron,
I have to agree with everyone so far. Your tang will not last in the 35g hex. I actually killed a small kole tang by qtining him in a 10g tank, he just go too stressed. Your powder brown tang is more active and larger than my kole was. I strongly suggest that you return the fish and get something smaller like clowns, royal gramma, chromis, damsels, firefish, any kind of blenny or gobie. good luck

In Hex tanks there's not a lot of swimming space. Look for stationary fish like Cardinalfish, Clownfish, Gobies.

i have 2 mated pairs of percs in my 35 hex and thats to much a tang in that is almost mean but LFS dont really care i was at mine one day and this guy said he wanted clowns and damsels in his tank the worker asked what size he said 20 gallons, then he asked the worker how many he could put in that tank and he said about 20 fish since they r small
