proper way to dose kalk

In the past I had always added kalk to my fresh water when doing water changes. I was advised against that since it can affect the levels of the fresh water. What is the propper way to dose kalk? I was thinking about sucking out a gallon of tank water, adding kalk, letting it sit over night, then dripping it.
I have to do a top-off tomorrow night so it might be a good time.

just add the kalc to your topoff water and slow drip it in with some airline tubing and a clamp.

did you read the instructions on the kalk? when you mix the kalk with water most of it will precipitate out of solution. you dont want to add any of the precip. what you want to do is only add the calcium saturated limewater.

When you do water changes you add salt to the water. When you addit to your topoff there is not salt.

YOU DON'T WANT TO ADD THE SOLUTION TOO
QUICKLY EITHER, THIS WILL EFFECT THE PH
AND POSSIBLY STRESS THE TANK LIFE.
