Protien skimmer

I don't know what's up with my ptrotien skimmer. Sometimes it bubbles and sometimes it doesn't. What is it's malfunction? It always does what it's supposed to do at the bottom, but at the top it's just not working my all of my other ones have.

Do you mean that it's functioning but not creating skimmate? I'm a little unclear on what the problem is specifically. What type of skimmer is it?

is it a stand-alone, in-sump, HOB?
which model?
it sounds to me like maybe it's an in-sump model that is having water level issues. they work fine until the water level gets too shallow or too deep. had a mini-G that was TERRIBLE in that respect...it's now chillin' in a landfill.
