Purchased a Jawfish Question

Just wondering, I purchased a jawfish and he was hiding for about 4 days and he has come out. He is currently at the top of the tank. Is this normal?

not really. They dig burrows and live in them. What is your substrate? They need a mixture of sand and crushed coral from what I have read. Do you have your rocks fully secure? If not they can dig and then the rock can fall over. Crack your tank or kill fish.

I heard they are jumpers...do you have a good cover?

My cover completly covers the top of the tank. I have a mixture of sand and crushed coral. I think he is looking for a good home.

You can help by taking a 1/2 inch wide by 4 inch long piece of PVC pipe and shove it into the sand. He may go into it.

I found my jawfish like that once. I think he may have 'jumped' and been lucky enough to not land on the carpet. After many repeated attempts he eventually did.
