Purple Anemone

I saw some really beautiful purple anemone today. I was told by one person that I need a protein skimmer in order to have one, then told by another person that consistent regular water changes was enough. I'm confused! Do I need it or not? Also will it kill my eel, starfish, or damsels?

How old is the tank? You should never put an anemone in a tank less then 6 months old...and water parameters have to be excellent....anemones don't generally kill things.....
and what type of anemone is it?

To keep one your tank needs to be 6-12 months old, your water quality must remain high at all times, meaning you should already have had a protien skimmer running in the system for a while, AND anemones require alot of high quality light to survive. Those are the most basic requirements of keeping one, and the more complex needs are proper water flow, feeding, and possibly a host clown or shrimp.
I suggest researching keeping them before getting one.

My tank has only been running for 2 months and I don't have a protein skimmer. Well I'll cross that off my list for now. Thanks for the info. I'll continue reading up on them as I'm sure I will want to add one once my tank is ready to house one.

DO research them - espically if you desire a clown to host in it eventually - Most clown fish will ignore an anemone they aren't "born" to host in, and with a dozen types of clownfish, and just as many types of anemones - it really helps to research which is best for what. If you do the homework right, your clowns will host within minutes or hours, versus never.

I spoke with associate at my fish store. I'm looking in to getting the protein skimmer and power head. I anemone I was interested in is a "white purple tip anemone". I purchased a Sebae anemone clownfish today and he seems to be very happy swimming every inch of the tank. Hopefully when my tank is ready he will host the purple tip anemone.

Most likely the "purple tip anemone" is a haitian or a condy, neither are well know for being a host, although some clowns (Clarkii's in my experience) will accept them. Did they have the scientific name listed?
I'm not sure what store you are shopping at but in order to steer you towards the right anemone for your clowns for the future, we would need an accurate name for them. There are no Sebae Anemone Clownfish. If you could post a picture, we could help you to identify your clown.
Not being critical but I, myself, would be skeptical about shopping in a store that has these type of descriptions of their livestock. If you continue to shop there, I would strongly recommend you brushing up on your research before you buy as it could save you a lot of heartache.

Can't figure out how to post the pic. I'm on an iPad. Haven't broke out my Mac Book in a while lol I'll get on and post the pic later today. But I did google " Sebae anemone clownfish" and a pic of my fish came up.

Clarkii's are sometimes referred to as sebae clowns as is another type, although I have never been able to find out why but several varieties of clowns will host a sebae.
The reason for my concerns is that I have seen a large amount of people lately who are sold misidentified fish.
Most of the stores I frequent list the common name and their scientific name to aid you in knowing exactly what you are purchasing. While not a big deal in your situation, when you get into some of the other fish, accurate ID is important and could be the difference between peace and a bloodbath in your tank!
The best advise I can give and something I do, even in trusted stores is to look things up on my phone before I buy. Make sure of the ID and read up a bit about them before you commit to the purchase. It's not foolproof but it is a good habit to get into!
