Purple stuff on sand

I don't see where you listed your phosphate level...what is it? Also have you tried any type of phosphate pad? Are you still using tap? I had cyano, and it took a while...fix your problems and you should be able to get rid of it w/o chemicals

due weekly water changes and manually remove it during the water change...it will take sometime but it will go away aslong as you are good water!!!

OK THEN...since you can not test for phosphate... then you have no way of knowing how high it is...chances are it needs to be lowered.
BUT, for now...YES...continue with water changes
THEN...get a test kit for phosphate and treat your issues that are causing your problems..

When I first set up my tank, I had the same thing. I read these threads that kept debating between nitrates and phosphates. I tried reducing feeding almost to the extent of not putting any food in the tank.
In the end, I simply siphoned off the cyanobacteria as often as I felt like it and increased water flow. Eventually, it stopped coming back.
I have suspected that it was feeding off something in the sand or rocks and eventually used ups its food supply. Either that, or the increased water movement may have simply made it impossible for it to "stick".
Since the stuff went away, I have taken out two of my power heads and now only have one power head with the propellor modification in a 55 gallon tank. There are certainly some places in the tank that don't have great flow, but still no cyano. (perhaps the mushrooms, zoos, leathers, etc are eating the things that used to feed the cyano.)
In any event, just keep plugging along.

Are you feeding your fish flake food, like spirulina flakes? That raises your phosphate levels.
I stopped using flake foods (plus added a phosphate pad) and the cyano never returned.

I feed three types of flakes every day. (Spirulina, Formula 2, and one other I can't remember) I probably overfeed the tank but still don't have any cyano anymore. Go figure.

IVE HAD LUCK WITH 2 TIMES WEEK WATER CHANGES, SIPHONING IT OFF EACH TIME, GET UR TEST KIT FOR PO,AND GO FROM THERE. THAT SLIME REMOVER CRAP HAS ANTIBIOTICS IN IT IF IM NOT MISTAKEN, AND ANYTHING LIKE THAT YOU KNOW U DONT WANNA ADD, TRY TO BE PATIENT. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

What type of food are you using???? I would also switch to feeding every other day, that may allow it to go away on its own. If you are feeding flake or frozen that may be the cause.

i am feeding them frozen homemade food that i defrost in some water and then give it to them. ok so i am not going to put in that red slime remover and i am going to put in an extra power head that i have and just keep doing water changes

I have the same problem in a 75g. I use ro to mix the salt and my nitrates were 5 when it started. They are now 10. I have tested for phosphates and they are zero.
I bought some snails that are suposed to eat it and have increased the flow. I have some red slime remover but i am trying other things before I use it.
I have reduced the lighting and that seems to help some. Don T.

Personally I would switch to feeding them pellets and only give them the frozen food once or twice a week. Honestly I bet that with a couple water changes would get rid of your problem.

ok thanks for the info. the problem is, is that last time i tried to feed them flake, my clownfish just stared at it and never even touched it, so i dont wont to give them something they wont eat
