Q on Mrs Wages Pickling Lime

I am trying to make my own Aiptasia X...
No stores around me has this stuff...they sell something called Mortons pickling salt for canning, which is what Mrs Wages pickling lime is for.
This may sound dumb to anyone who cans, but....I have never canned, I will never can, and I have no idea what pickling lime even looks like.
Is Pickling lime and pickling salt the same thing?

No, one is salt and pickling lime is calcium based. Any alk buffer should do the trick as well I think. I tried using the pickling lime dose on aiptasia -- covered it and it grew right on through it so it didn't work for me.

I didn't buy the pickling salt, I figured it wasn't but needed to ask.
I have Seachems Alk builder (buffer, fancy name?)...it looks like a crystal not powder.

Pickling lime is 100% calcium hydroxide. It's the same thing that is sold as "Kalk" or "Kalkwasser".
It works because it has a PH of 12+ when mixed with water. If you add a squirt of fish food just before you use it you can stimulate the feeding response and have better luck.

Flower,
I looked up the Mrs wages website and in illinois it says the product should be found at these fine retailers.
County Markets
Hy-Vee
Quincy F&H
Rural King
Wal-Mart
Hope that helps, good luck

I suppose you have already tried boiling water or lemon juice huh?

Afraid so, lemon juice or boiling water are a bust.
My peppermint shrimp are MIA..I think my huge green brittle star got them, along with one of my cleaner shrimp and a red lip blenny, so it is going to a new home. All the missing were rock dwellers.
Thanks Jstdv8, I will try Wal mart for the pickling lime, I had a huge bottle of kalk and had no idea what to do with it...so I tossed it after a year, that was two years ago.
Thank you everyone for the help...I hate aiptasia. I have 5, that I can count so far, and they are as big as a Xenia stalk.

You might try a feed store also, not exactly sure what they use lime for besides covering animal carcasses but I was able to find a 50lb bag of lime for $11.
Another note: You are not trying to cover the aiptasia with the lime you want it to eat it. If the aiptasia does not eat the lime paste it most likely will not kill it. I have never tried adding food to the tank before I treat aiptasia, the addition of the lime seems to trigger the feeding response in most of my corals for whatever reason, but adding a little food before you start can't hurt.

as i noted in lots of other posts on the subject you want to cover the face so that it can't expel its spawn which unconfirmed rumors say they do when they get messed with. doing it this way you really dont even have to kill it. it just has to get on the face and it will ingest it anyways and it will turn all white and dead looking within 45 minutes. if they ingest it they usually dont suck into the hole, if they dont they suck in, but either way a good suck with the turkey baster after 45 mins sucks them right out and you're done with it.
Ive also got a wild hair to try and neck down a shop vac and see if i can suck one right out of the hole while its fully alive. I bought all of the attachments to neck it down to about 1/2" at the end. and if that doesnt work I bought a suction cup Im going to put the attachment through the top of and see if that works. the cool thing about that is even though you are messing with it all the seed it "might" spew will get sucked up in the vac.
almost hoping i get a new one so i can test it out LOL
so far 1.5 months after the eradication of 300 and Ive only had 2 come back and i killed them off with the paste too.
