Quarintine Tanks

Personally I have a large piece of live rock and a mesh bag of live sand in my QT. If I ever need to medicate the tank, I can easily take them out and keep them in a bucket with a heater & powerhead. I like to keep the LR in there to make the fish feel as good as possible.

Thanks again to every1 on here that helped out. So we ended up washing the ship with white vinegar and letting it sit in hot water for a few hours yesterday before we put it in the QT(hospital tank). Aswell. we purchased some PVC and added it to the tank. We also made a 1/4" layer sand bed from the LS from my DT aswell as a small piece of LR. Hooked up all equipment(heater, filter, etc..)and the QT is up and running. Any other suggestions you guy would like to make or think maybe i should take into consideration? When do u guys think I should test the parameters?

I am really new at this, if you are saying PVC stands for plastic pipe why is it not called PP.
I always thought PVC stood for Polyvinyl chloride pipe

I don't know what it stands for. It is white and plasticy looking. Technical terms here

yes, pvc stands for polyvinyl chloride. it is most commonly white, but can come grey, blue, and i think black, depending on the pressure/usage needs.

You can also get flexible “PVC”

Hold on friend, I assume you are using the sand and rock to seed your tank. Your filter is a prime spot for nitrifying bacteria to colonize, but it has to be feed. I would still go the cocktail shrimp method. You should have a good head start on your cycle with the bacteria you have introduced with your DT sand. You should see a mini cycle with the introduction of the shrimp as your bio load may overwhelm your nitrifying bacteria. Start testing after you put the shrimp in. when you start seeing nitrate reading. Your well on your way
Of course as always this is just IMO

Just was wondering I have a 20gal nano skimmer. Do I need to set it up at the moment or would you suggest i set it up later on down the road?

Certainly using a skimmer, if you have an extra one, will be of some benefit.
However, as Joe suggests it is not necessary to have one to set up a working/useable QT/HT.

No one really told me...I had an extra nano skimmer around the house so i figured if it would have any benefits at all then i might aswell put it on too.

The skimmer can be used if you want. It will have to be removed for any treatments though.

Just curious guys in the event that you have a fish that nips at the other fish fins/tails, and there fins and tails get damaged. Other then getting the fish thats nipping out of the tank. Is there any meds or soultions you can add to help speed up the process of the fish that have damaged fins/tails

As you noted, removing the 'tail nipper' is probably all you need to do....Most people will minimally increase the rate of use of vitamin supplements (Selcon)
and/or garlic. If I have one that is really beat up I move him/her by themselves into the QT/HT and use RALLY. Problem: It does contain Formalin
and should never be used in a DT. Formalin is a known carcinogen so be careful handling the medication and the tank water as you discard/change it. Other option: Maracyn II

First, as mentioned, take out the aggressive fish. Maracyn 2 for SW fish can be used if it becomes bacterial. For just nips increasing the vitamins works well. I bought a pair of clowns that were missing large chunks out of their fins. I successfully treated them by just adding Zoecon to their frozen formula foods. It was healed in no time.
