You can get a NEW 10g tank for $12.00 and use a NEW little HOB filter (14.00 tops)...some NEW PVC pieces ($1.50) for a new fish to cozy up to so they feel safe. Let it cycle. Also...Paint the bottom back (on the outside) in case you have to treat the new fish, live rock and sand create problems and a glass bottom looks bad to me.
I was also including a setup w/ hood (basic bulbs) for alittle light to observe them as well as prevent anyone from jumping out

Ah...the hood, I didn't consider that. Surely they won't charge that much more for a hood? I just purchased a 20g and was going for a 10g so I knew the prices. Before I spent that I would buy a goose neck $4.00 clip on, or desk lamp from Walmart....it will light the little tank enough to see...a wrasse or firefish would need a mesh cover even with a hood that is open in the back for the filter.

trust me I tried to explain everything
my dad said,"if you can't manage with just one tank the you should just drain the one you got. Be happy with what you have now and you can have all the tanks you want when you move out".

you should be fine... just inspect all the fish at the LFS and make sure none have any diseases. Be careful and inspect your fish real well before buying them.

I would say the same, inspect fish very closely, look for spots, scratches, request th fish store feed the fish so you can be ensured the fish is eating. The fish eating will be a big bonus.

Yes, I forgot to say that you MUST make sure the fish is eating in the LFS.
