We made a run down to a LFS today and they had some tank raised Queen Conch. The guy told me I could easily get 5-6 for the 125g and they would do nicely:rolleyes: Anyway I know thats BS but could one queen be happy in the 125g or should I stick with 1-2 fighting conchs
Thanks

the ones I had were really small and prefered to be onthe glass rather than on the sand the fighting conchs are the better ones for the sand bed.

Queens will stop climbing on glass & rocks once they get some size to them. They are avid sand cleaners but mostly just eat Diatoms. The Fighting Conch will eat detritus in addition to diatoms.
I would suggest one of each for your tank.

Thanks Guy that sounds like a plan
Is there a way to tell the difference in them other than size

Queens have pronounced pointed nubs across the middle of the shell. Fighting have rounded nubs.....that's the scientific way to tell:D I have 2 queens in my 135. No fighting to be had around here for some reason. My queens stay on the sand.

Thanks Wrassecal thats scientific enough for me:) Do they do a good job at keeping the sand clean

Mine do a good job and they stay on the sand. Buy them small at about 1 inch. It takes a long time for them to get too big. I've had mine almost a year and one is almost 3 inches and the other is 2 inches.

Thanks guys. These at the LFS were about 1-in. I'm going to take a run down there after work today and pick one up.
Thanks, again

I've got two fighters and one Queen in my 150 with tons of hermits(all sorts of varieties) and have never had a problem. They do grow really fast.

I do have a lot of hermits. From very small to these big guys. I also have a pile of shells behind the LR in case they need new homes.

I think so. I don't know if he evicted the original owner or not but when I originally put him in the tank he was pretty small.

My queen was about an inch long when I got it and is about 2 1/2 inches now.... I've had it for about 8 months. I find it all over the place, sand, rocks, glass....

I do not have hermits with the exception of 1 scarlet that came on my lr, my first hitchiker from way back, couldn't part with it. I was just having trouble with hermits so got rid of them.
