Question about Refugium set ups

I set up a hang on, put miracal mud and brillo algea in it,Its been going for bout a month, I have red slime growing in it covering the brillo,no slime in main tank,Is there a proper way to set up a refugium, and what lighting is required? Thanks for any input.

Try more water flow IMO.

Thanks Bang, but it already has a Rio 800 pump feeding it, The light that came with it is a regular 13 watt flouresent is this OK to use or will that contribute to my problem

The light sounds fine. Can you remove the Chaeto & shake off the Cyano?

The algae likes current so I snag it on a bit of dead coral to hold it in the flow, it does not root like other macros. I use PC lamps but a bit more than you, 2x34 Watt over about 16" x 16" sump. Double the size of algae in about 6 weeks.
