Question for you RO/DI users

I have the Typhoon III RO/DI unit and after several attemps to get it working I think I have it. My question is the product water is just trickling out while the waste water is POURING out. Is this ok? It is going to take forever to make water at this rate AND won't this make our water bill go WAY up?

Sounds normal. I believe it takes something like 4 gallons of waste water to make 1 gallon of RO/DI water.
Guess the water bill will depend a lot on the rates in your area and how much water you need for weekly water changes.

You should have about 4 times as much waste water as clean water and yes this will make your water bill go up. You can do various things to not waste as much water such as sending the waste water to your washing machine.

I've heard some people use it to water plants, cooking, or anyother way you use water that doesn't need to be hot. You just need a place to store it.

That all sounds normal to me too.
Do the math. If your unit is rated at 100 gpd then it should take ' about ' 1 hour to fill 4 gls. of filtered water.
As far as the bill, all depends on how much you use your filter ( total water used for water changes, top offs and drinking a month ) and how and how much your charged by the water department in your area.

Things to check:
1 - Use buckes and a watch to actually calculate how fast it makes good water vs how fast it rejects water. A 1:4 or 1:5 ratio of good:waste is typical.
2 - Make sure the restrictor in in the proper place on the waste line.
3 - Make sure the water isn't too cold for the RO to function properly.
4 - Make sure you have enough water pressure.
5 - Toss the first 10 - 15 gallons of water.
