If it is gone, do consider an Aqua C skimmer. I performed a head-to-head test last winter with an Aqua C EV and several other popular skimmers. Understanding that everyone's systems is different, I was blown away by the Aqua C, and Jason (who owns the company) is a heck of a nice guy and always available with tips and tricks regarding the Aqua C line.
The differentiator is that fact that the Aqua C is a spray injected skimmer (a patented process), and that really does make a big difference IMHO. Having said that, many of the major brands of skimmers work well enough if you take the time to tune and adjust them. Remember, it is rare to get out-of-the-box performance with any skimmer..lots of tinkering required, but that's what we love about this hobby, right?
For more information on spray injection,
here is an article I wrote for Suite101, where I am the aquarium fish feature writer.
