R.I.P. Herb

Our LMB Herb, died Sunday night in his sleep. He had been in our tank for 10 months.
Our tank has been nearly algae-free for many months now, but Herb would eagerly eat nori and most of the frozen food he was offered and maintained his "beer belly" until just recently.
Over the past few weeks, he became uninterested in eating even his favorite foods. He would rush to a morsel, take it then spit it back out. The only thing he would actually eat was an occasional pellet, but only 1 or 2, then loose interest in the rest.
He was a real character and clown, always active and curious of everything we did. He is already sorely missed.

SO Sorry to hear this.....I just lost mine last week, and I had it for 3 years :( My tank has been algae free for a long time, BUT the lmb was eating algae sheets AND frozen...apparently it was not enough of what it needed to sustain its diet :(

Yeah, I read your thread and was thinking about you when this happened. Its like he just gave up. The saddest thing is the last couple of days he would just sit and stare at me as if asking for help. I tried a lot of different foods, he just didn't want any of it.

So sorry :-(
I would be so upset if I lost either of my blennies, they're my favorite fish.
Thanks BTLD.
On a related note, I continue to see no detectable nitrates from API tests. The only legacy of Herb is a bloom of algae on the back wall (which he would have loved to eat) and the chaeto in the fuge grew a bit. And all the coral look fabulous.

AW...so sorry to hear, my blennie has been reduced to sheets as well...now I wonder if he will be alright. Will they eat hair algae? I have a ton of it in the SH tank and I could put a rock into the 90g for him...

Joe - sorry to here this - I lost one last year - I guess these guys are meant to stay where they come from. Live and learn I always say
We almost need to culture algae rocks for these guys if we want to keep them, I wonder if we could culture algae rocks or in a fuge or a separate tank with nitrates in the water. My FW set up I add ferts that could perhaps culture algae rocks for these guys. I think it would be worth it because they are characters.

That is a great idea, culture some "algae rocks" in the 'fuge and rotate them in and out of the DT.

Aww, Slice, I'm really sorry to hear about your loss. I lost a LMB to carpet surfing once, and now everyone has me concerned about my current LMB.

Thanks Gemmy, perhaps you could consider Al's "cultured algae rock"?
I know when I would clean or disrupt my HOB fuge and a fluff of that cottony yellow-green algae (whatever it is) would make it into the DT, Herb went nuts over it.
Looking back, I should have done that much more often.

The wife and I are watching the tank, waiting for those two big eyes to creep up behind a rock playing "peek-a-boo" like he used to do.

YEAH TANGS.....it took a long time for mine to "waste away" :( and he was eating frozen and the sheets though
Maybe we need to make sure we have a good source for HA to place in our tanks for them....IDK....I battled and battled to get rid of mine....and eventually lost my LMB
