Rabbit Fish Color Change

I've had my One Spot Foxface for 3 weeks now. He started out yellow but keeps changing to a brown color. He shows his yellow at certain points within the day but is too often brown and white. What's the deal? Is he sick or missing something from his diet? He is kinda skiddish. Is this an attempt to camoflage?

They should turn mottled with a lot of brown at night or early morning. If they are stress free they should be bright yellow all day.

"Color can be deceiving as individuals are very labile in changing such with their immediate mood. A "happy" specimen is to be selected for, but don't necessarily disqualify a fish as unsuitable due to temporary fright or nighttime coloration; they change dramatically and fast."

His tank mates are:
2 ocellaris clowns
1 Kole Tang
1 Lawnmower Blennie
2 Scissortail Damsels
1 Six line wrasse
2 Peppermint shrimp
1 Harlequin shrimp
1 Scarlet cleaner shrimp
None of the other fish bother him AT ALL but he has been skiddish from entry. Could it be diet related? I've noticed that when I feed him submerged food all day on the weekends and even seaweed on a clip, his color is much better. During the weekday daytime, the Eheim dispenses 3 times and I feed thawed frozen food in the evenings. He rarely goes to the surface to eat so I'm not sure what he eats during the daytime.

I had a single spot several years ago, and he would drop his yellow and goto that molted grey/brown/yellow color at night, during feedings, and often during the day....He was a good eater and peacful, I kept him for a year or 1.5, but one day my yellow tang accidently ran into him during feeding and got stung/venomated and went into spasims/seizures and died within 10 minutes. I returned the siganus unimaculatus to the lfs, cause I prefer tangs - and watching that poor yellow dude twitch & flop around and go into shock then drown kinda put me off rabbitfishes. They were in a 100g tank, but a collision like that could happen in any size tank, and the tang will loose that battle everytime......maybe it was just my bad luck too? As long as he eats, he'll be ok, but remember he'll not only sting/venomate you - he could do it to tank mates - even if it's accidental...
And yes, they'll drop their yellow in seconds and mine did quite often, sometimes for no appearant reason during the day, but be normal again within minutes...IME
Edit - If I remember right, he was kinda a bottom/mid water column feeder - not so much top, but would take food from a clip after a while. I had him in '03 or so and don't remember all the details, but I sure remember why I returned him! though I never got stung, but have heard from several who have, and it does not sound pleasant!
