I said it was "discouraging." Not "I cut off my leg."
Thanks for the concern. I really do appreciate it.
This morning kicked off the weekend of service. (see http://weekendofservice.com/ for details) Last night I loaded the car with tools, snacks for the day and my planner. I usually pull into the driveway, but I had backed in to load the tools.
So, this morning I fill the 5gal water cooler with ice water, grab the plastic cups and head out the door with my 9 yr old daughter. Then I see this and my jaw drops.

was this plain out vandalism or was theft also involved?
My planner with 12 credit cards was on the floor in front of the driver seat.
The back end of the 4runner had hundreds of dollars worth of tools.
I explained to the officer, "they only took the $200 GPS."
(that looks odd, I usually type GSP
)
I should have left it unlocked. The driver glass will cost me about $200.
I suppose I got off easy.

No, That is a straight out theft, i bet the house on it... AND they cleaned that car out.. you can pawn ALL of those tools ALSO it might be an inside job and watched you load those tools up....Its funny ALL of the guns in the world will not deter the ordinary crack head thief.

You got off easy.. look at it that way... My friend is NYPD and when I was up there he told me to NOT EVEN LEAVE the GPS bracket on the windshield because they will break in and look for the GPS even if they dont see it and he is also telling me that he has written 100's of police reports in the past year for broken in cars looking and stealing GPS's.

That's what I figured when I saw the glass all over the driveway. The doors were still locked. They just leaned in far enough to snatch the GPS off the windshield. Thank God they didn't take my planner. (PHEW!)

99 out of 100 times, I take it down. I was in a hurry last night and forgot to.
It really chaps my hide, but I had a great day serving others.
Also got to watch my daughter's choir sing at a Festival for the Arts.
Overall, it was a good day and I wouldn't trade it for any other.

The smash and grab hit. I had it happen to me when I was in college. They smashed my window and grabbed an $89 radar detector off my visor. If they had opened the glovebox, they would have found my automatic handgun.
