My wife looked at two yesterday, one was ultra bright yellow but it was a baby Commerson. :(
The other was cute, but it wasn't what she wanted.
So we are either going to go with a Black Hairy Angler with the bright blue eyes, or a Maculatus. I love the lava colored Mac's, but they go so fast and are really hard to find!
Hopefully we will find the one we want in the next couple of months, this will give us time to find a new home for our LM Blenny and our two shrimp.
The only thing I hate about Anglers is the fact that you cannot have more than one in the same tank.

Im not sure about how reproduction is with these guys but is there a way to tell male from female? could you not put one male anf one female in the same tank?

I'm sure there is, but I haven't a clue. The females are larger, but that's the extent of my knowledge in this area.
Anglers will become cannibalistic, that's why they are considered a true specimen fish. I have heard of one person who bought a mated pair and had no issues, but I have never seen such a thing for sale, even by the most exotic dealers. It would be a dream come true though!

wouldnt that be something to have a breeding pair! dont give me any ideas...
I think the problem is that the way they feed (anything up to 2X its own size lol) that it may just try and eat the other angler - not out of dominance.. but just for the meal
hmmmm....
I bet the mated pair was very expensive. my fish alone was 200!

Exactly, their stomachs control their ability to make friends, LOL!
My guess on a price would be 500-1500 depending on species and color. Maybe even more simply because of the rarity.
